SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 332

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

recognize Zinetta A. Burney on the grand occasion of her 60th

birthday; and

WHEREAS, Born in 1941, Zinetta has overcome many challenges

in her 60 years to become the successful attorney and community

leader that she is today; and

WHEREAS, After leaving high school to have her only

daughter, Sharon Maria Burney, Zinetta worked hard to obtain

her general equivalency degree and become a licensed vocational

nurse; and

WHEREAS, Determined to succeed, Zinetta graduated from

Texas Southern University with her bachelor of science degree

in mathematics; she went on to graduate from the Thurgood Marshall

School of Law at Texas Southern University; and

WHEREAS, Zinetta worked for Burney, Caggins and Hartsfield

as an attorney until 1990, when she left to form Burney and Forman,

the firm which she currently serves as senior partner; and

WHEREAS, Widely respected by her colleagues for her

professionalism and legal expertise, Zinetta is a member of

the State Bar of Texas, Houston Lawyers Association, and the

Houston Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, Zinetta has exhibited a steadfast

commitment to community; she has served numerous institutions as a

leader, including the University of Houston System Board of Regents,

which she was appointed to by Governor Ann Richards; today, Zinetta

continues to serve on the boards of directors of the Third Ward

Redevelopment Council, Incorporated, Greater Houston Women's

Foundation, Main Street Coalition, and Triangle Ministries of

Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Zinetta has been recognized by numerous

organizations as an exemplary and distinguished lady; the

Thurgood Marshall School of Law, the United Cerebral Palsy

Association, and the Housing Authority of the City of Houston

are but three of the many institutions to have honored Zinetta;

and

WHEREAS, The State of Texas is proud to count

Zinetta A. Burney as a citizen; her determined efforts to

improve herself, as well as her many civicminded deeds, are

deserving of the recognition of all Texans; she is truly a

grand and generous person, who has earned the esteem and love

of her family and friends, many of whom will join with her in

celebration on the 60th anniversary of her birth; now, therefore,

be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

77th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to

Zinetta A. Burney on her 60th birthday and extend best

wishes to her for a joyous celebration; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

Zinetta to mark this special day in her life.
