LOS ANGELES TRADE-TECHNICAL COLLEGE

Los Angeles Trade-Technical College has been serving the community for eighty years.

Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (LATTC) represents a special kind of community college offering classes in 65 different occupational areas along with academic transfer curricula. The college is one of the nine colleges that comprise the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD).

LOCATION

The college is conveniently located near downtown Los Angeles. It could be said that all freeways lead to Trade-Tech but one of the best ways to Trade-Tech is by public transportation. The campus is served by the Metro Blue Line. More than 50 bus and metro lines stop within a few blocks of the college!

MISSION STATEMENT

Los Angeles Trade-Technical College is a comprehensive, public community college offering learner centered associate degree and certificate programs to students who reflect the global diversity of the Los Angeles region. The college offers a unique education that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and applied learning experiences.

Our programs are rigorous, technologically current, and designed to promote student success in:

ACCREDITATION

Los Angeles Trade-Technical College is officially accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges and is fully approved by the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees and the State Chancellor's Office to give full credit for appropriate courses completed. The Culinary Arts program is also accredited by the American Culinary Federation and Educational Institute. The Licensed Vocational and Registered Nursing program is approved by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians and the Board of Registered Nurses of California.

STUDENTS

Population, Ethnicity, Immigrants, Language Spoken

Over 13,855 students attended Los Angeles Trade-Technical College for fall semester, 2005. LATTC’s student population is a minority-majority—94.5% of students are ethnic minority students. Hispanic students are the largest or majority ethnic group at 53.4% of the student population. African Americans are the second largest ethnic group at 28.7% of the student population. Another indicator of the extensive diversity of LATTC’s student population is the percentage of students whose primary language is not English—38.5%.

Socio-Economic Status

Over half (54.2%) of LATTC students receive a BOG (financial need) waiver. One out of two (50.3%) LATTC students live at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and 54.9% of students in Fall 05 received financial aid.

Educational Goals

Almost half of LATTC students’ (49.1%) educational goals are career-related (e.g., prepare for a new career, advance in current job/career, discover career goals/interests, maintain license, vocational degree, vocational certificate). Over one-third, or 35.9%, of LATTC’s students have educational goals that are unknown, transitional-, or general education-related (e.g., non-college level, improve basic skills, obtain GED, personal enrichment, undecided, etc.). Students with transfer-related educational goals comprise 15.0% of the LATTC student population.

Degrees Awarded

A total of 1,394 degrees and certificated were awarded in academic year 2004-2005. Among them were 541 A.A. and A.S. degrees, together with 853 certificates.

FACULTY

A total of 340 full-time equivalent faculty (FTEF) teach at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, including 160 regular and 180 adjunct faculty.

LATTC full-time faculty average over 23 years of experience in their respective industries.
