SPRING GAMES

Parallel events

Wheelchair Basketball:

Teams of 3

Boys or Girls

Rules

·  The aim is to pass the basketball to the catcher who must catch the ball without bouncing and having both feet inside the hoop.

·  The team that concedes the basket start with the ball from the baseline.

·  Dribbling - a player may wheel the chair and bounce the ball simultaneously, however, if the ball is picked up and/or placed on the players lap, he/she is only allowed to push twice before they need to shoot, pass or dribble the ball again. There is no double dribble rule in wheelchair basketball.

·  A Travelling violation occurs if the player takes more than two pushes while in possession of the ball and not dribbling.

·  Fouls – The wheelchair is considered part of the player’s body in relation to establishing responsibility for contact on court in the case of charging, blocking, going out of bounds and other violations.

Badminton Benchball:

Teams of 6 (we will form teams from the wheelchair basketball entries)

Boys or Girls

Equipment: 3 Benches, large and small shuttles, rackets

Aim: for participants to feel confident using their batting skills in an adapted game situation.

Rules

·  Each participant has a racket (if they want one) and a shuttle, apart from the “catcher” stood on the bench.

·  The shuttle must be hit or thrown to the catcher on the bench. If the catcher catches the shuttle the player that threw/hit it can also stand on the bench (leaving their racket in a safe place)

·  The winning team is the first team to get all of their players on the bench.

·  Players may defend their bench but must be stood at least a metre away.

·  Children who are unable to stand up on the bench can be positioned next to it.
