What Type of Blood Cell Am I?

Inside of our bodies we have three types of blood cells, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This activity will help us find more out about the blood cells that help us carry nutrients and oxygen, and most importantly live!

Using the set of clues, develop a prediction for each different blood cell type.

Notes:

Clue 1: My life span is about 120 days, I am made in bone marrow

Clue 2: I carry oxygen and carbon dioxide throughout the body

Clue 3: I am round shaped like a doughnut with a dent in the middle

Clue 4:I get my color from hemoglobin a chemical that is rich in iron

Clue 5: Draw what you see through the micro-viewer! This is an image of exactly what the tissue looks like under magnification.

Muscle #1: Prediction ______

______

What is your justification for you prediction? ______

______

______

______

Station 2:

Notes:

Clue 7: I am a thrombocyte and I am a colorless fragment of a cell

Clue 8: My life span is only 9 to 12 days long

Clue 9: I make up less than 1% of your blood, I am the smallest blood particle

Clue 10:My main function is to control bleeding by helping blood to form a clot and then a scab

Clue 11: In aplastic anemia, a rare but very serious condition, production of my cells (and other blood cells) in the bone marrow is severely depressed.

Clue 12: Draw what you see through the micro-viewer! This is an image of exactly what the tissue looks like under magnification.

Bonus QR: Plasma is the pale-yellow liquid part of your blood that holds all the blood cells. It makes up about 55% of your total volume. It carries nutrients throughout your body.

Station 3:

Notes:

Clue 13: There are 3 types of my cells: granulocytes, monocytes, and lymphocytes.

Clue 14: My cells have a wide range of lifespans, from hours to years. I have different shapes.

Clue 15: My cells fight infection and help you develop immunity. I am the largest blood cell

Clue 16: I make up less than 1% of your blood.

Clue 17: High white blood cell count is an increase in disease fighting cells circulating in your blood. High white blood cell count is called leukocytosis

Clue 18: Draw what you see through the micro-viewer! This is an image of exactly what the tissue looks like under magnification.
