American History3
What’son a cube? We all have many sides or facets to who we are and which side(s) we show to whom and when. We are a student/teacher, a brother/sister, a son/daughter, a friend/stranger, an athlete/nerd. Using pictures, words or phrases, you will be asked to cover the sides of your cube.
Side 1: Ode to America –Write or find a poem, song, wordle, etc. celebrating America. Please try to think outside the box (yes, the pun was intended!) and avoid using the obvious choices of God Bless America, The Star Spangled Banner (the National Anthem), The Pledge of Allegiance, My Country ‘Tis of Thee…..
Side 2: I’m proud to be an American –As an introduction to American History, we need to look at what it means when one says “America”. Think about what The United States of America is all about. What emotions, ideas, feelings and concepts convey what America means to you. What does liberty, freedom and/or democracy mean? What does it mean to be an American? What role do you play as an American citizen?
Side 3: What Others Think – Interview three people and write down their ideas about what America means to them (two of the three must be adults and their names must appear on the project as does the third individual).
Side 4: Coffee Talk – What four (4) famous Americans, living or dead, would you like to sit down and have a cup of coffee with? Why did you choose them/ What is their claim to fame and what one thought provoking question would you ask each of them them?
Side 5: Money, money, money – The Federal Government is in the processes of changing the face of our currency. They are going to be replacing one side of a bill with a famous American while still retaining the original portrait on the other. The one dollar bill is the last. Which famous American do you think should be on the face of the new bill and why? What is his/her claim to fame? Remember this should be of historical significance and therefore Kanye West/Kim Kardashian are not the running.
Side 6: All about me – Get creative and tell me your hopes, dreams, hobbies etc. Remember this is all about you and what makes you unique and special.Don’t forget to put your name here.
Each side is worth 5 points for a total of 30 points. Points are granted based on depth of content. For example, a blank side is worth 0 points and a side filled with a thoughtful, well intentionedresponse is worth 5 points.
