Hello everyone,

Tuesday 9th February is Safer Internet Day but it is something we should be very aware of every day. Half term is nearly here and lots of you over the holiday will be using computers, tablets and mobile phones to surf the internet and keep in touch with each other.

It is really important to remember that once something is put on the internet it stays there forever and anyone can access it at anytime. Sexting is when someone sends or receives a sexually explicit text message, image or video of their naked body or private parts on their mobile phone or through social media. These images can be sent to you from a friend, boyfriend, girlfriend orsomeone you've met online. It may be that you have sent a sexual photo, video or text to someone else.

Once you press send, it is no longer in your control. It can be posted anywhere on the internet and could end up on social networking sites for everyone to see.

What should you do if someone sends you rude picture message

·  Ask them to stop! if they’re still bothering you or making you feel upset it’s okay to block them - even if it’s just for a bit.

·  If someone has been making you feel uncomfortable by asking you to send them images, you must report them to someone you trust, either your parent’s / Carer’s or a Teacher.

·  It is wrong for anyone to send or receive images that they are not comfortable with.

·  If you are under18 and send indecent images you can be prosecuted and receive a criminal record which will stay with you forever and may affect the type of job you get when you leave school

·  Remember be safe, feel safe. If in doubt speak to someone straight away!

Before sending a text message or a picture message think

of these rules first………

Who might see it?
Don’t send anything you wouldn’t want your parents, teachers or friends seeing. Even if you completely trust someone, other people using their phone might accidently see it.

What are the risks?
Even if you use a webcam or an app like Snapchat, the person can take a screen shot in seconds and spread it on the internet

Whoare you sendingit to?
Do you know and trust the person you are messaging? People we may meet on the internet may not be who they say they are and may be grooming us into doing things we don’t want to or are not comfortable with.

Why do you want to send it?
If you want to impress somebody, you can do it in other ways. In most cases, sexting can have the opposite effect and you could be seen as somebody you’re not. The person you are sending it to may not have the same understanding as you do.

REMEMBER ONCE IT’S SENT IT’S GONE FOREVER AND ANYONE CAN SEE IT
