Sex Therapy your questions answered…

An Active sex life is an enjoyable and important element of a healthy relationship. However, most people encounter sexual problems at some point in their lives.

There are lots of physical and emotional reasons why this can happen, for example stress, tiredness, illness, family and work pressures, even a new baby.

A lot of people find these sexual problems don’t last long. Where a problem does last, Relate can help.

When can Relate help?

Relate can help where people are having problems with their sex life due to physical or emotional reasons. Relate sex therapists see lots of people with sexual difficulties like:

  • Loss of desire
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Premature ejaculation
  • Pain on intercourse

What happens during sex therapy?

Firstly you will meet with a sex therapist. The therapist will take time to explore with you what you want to achieve or change in your sexual relationship and what the reasons behind this might be. The therapist will talk with you about the best way forward in your circumstances.

Where Relate can help, you will have regular sessions with your sex therapist during which you’ll be given a programme of exercises to do at home and discuss your progress (you will never be asked to undertake any sexual tasks during a session)

How long will it take?

Relate deals with every client’s situation individually and the length of time therapy takes depends on your circumstances. Sessions are usually weekly and therapists always work at your pace, not to a timetable, so you will never feel rushed or obliged to come back unnecessarily.

Who comes to Relate?

Relate sees people individually as well as in couples. People who come for sex therapy can be part of a couple, single, in a same sex relationship, young or old. A lot of people are referred to Relate by their GP, but anyone can choose to contact us direct. When you contact us, please make it clear that you would like to see a sex therapist.

How much will it cost?

Clients are asked to pay what they can afford towards the cost of the service.

If you have a question that we have not answered here, then please contact us and we will be pleased to help. Our contact details are overleaf.
