Things you should know about
Workers’ Compensation inIowa / Diocese of Davenport

What is Workers’ Compensation?

Workers' Compensation insurance is required by state law and the benefits provided are determined by state law. We pay for this coverage to provide employees who are injured on the job with reasonable income and medical benefits when a bona fide Workers' Compensation injury has occurred.

To help you work through the process of your Workers' Compensation claim, we are providing you with this important information. Our goal is that you receive the best medical care possible and have a speedy recovery.

We each have a responsibility to keep lines of communication open. We cannot assist you with your concerns if you do not communicate them to us and we recognize that it is equally important for us to communicate with you.

  • Timeline

You are required to immediately report your injury to your supervisor so it can be determined if a claim needs to be filed on your behalf. If a claim is filed, you should expect to be contacted by an insurance adjuster in a timely manner. Otherwise, advise ______.

Please maintain contact with the adjuster and us to ensure no delay in benefits. Let ______or your adjuster know if you have any questions.

FAILURE TO REPORT AN EVENT CAN RESULT IN DISCIPLINARY ACTION.

  • Responsibilities

You are responsible for communicating with the adjuster and regarding your medical treatment, all appointments and any change in work status. YOU MUST KEEP ALL SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY COMPROMISE YOUR BENEFITS.

______will communicate to you and is available to answer questions regarding this process. Please note that this process only works if the lines of communication remain open from all parties involved. You must comply with the physician's orders regarding restrictions, ability to work, and return to work programs.

WORKERS' COMPENSATION INSURANCE FRAUD IS A CRIME

Insurance fraud not only hurts employers' bottom line, but also hurts the employee(s) involved. The employee(s) involved in fraud will lose Workers' Compensation benefits, lose their job(s), and face court costs, fines and possible jail time.

  • Benefits

Workers' Compensation coverage provides two major types of benefits:

MEDICAL: Paid by our insurer directly to the medical provider on your behalf.

  • In Iowa, the employer has the right to direct initial medical care. The Workers’ Compensation insurance carrier must approve the medical care requested by the treating physician.
  • If authorized, this benefit will be paid for by our insurer to help you recover from injury or illness caused by work. Doctor visits, hospital services, physical therapy, and testing are some of the medical services that may be provided.
  • The services that are paid for must be approved by our insurer and must be medically necessary for your injury. There are limits on certain services such as physical therapy and chiropractic care.

INDEMNITY:Paid directly to you when you are not allowed by the physician to work.

  • If your doctor says you cannot work as a result of your work-related injury or illness, you will be compensated as required by state law.
  • If you are able to come back to work, even on light duty, you will receive your normal wage. If you are off work because of your injury, the law only allows for you to be paid at X% of your (gross/net) wages.

RETURN-TO-WORK

In order to maximize your wages during this time, we have an aggressive return-to-work program in place. If you are allowed by an authorized doctor to work at a light duty status, we will make efforts to accommodate the physician'srestrictions. This allows you to earn 100% of your wages.
