What is the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge™?

Now in its 11th year, the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is a free, global summer reading program designed to keep kids reading throughout the summer months. Kids can log their reading minutes online to earn digital rewards. The program is both educational and fun, and aims to prevent the effects of the “summer slide”—the learning losses that can occur during the summer months. Results will be published in Best & Buzzworthy 2018: World Records, Trending Topics, and Viral Moments. The top school in each state will be listed, and will receive a “Celebration Kit” that will come complete with items to host a schoolwide reading celebration.

How do we participate in the 2017Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge?

  1. Teachers and parents can register their students and children (grades K–8) and access free summer reading tools at scholastic.com/summer.
  2. Pre-registration for schools begins April 3, 2017
  3. Students can log reading minutes from May 8 through 3 p.m. EST, September 8, 2017.
