What is the Parent Advisory Council?
The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is a District organization comprised of parents and residents from the Riverview Gardens community who are interested in working with the District to see that federal legislation such as Title I and No Child Left Behind (NCLB) are successfully implemented in the Riverview Gardens School District.
Mission of the Parent Advisory Council
The mission of the Riverview Gardens Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is to: support and speak on behalf of parents, students, community members and patrons within our school district; offer parent/community perspectives on issues and matters requiring parental and/or community input that affect our children; promote parent interest and participation and increase parental knowledge; function as an umbrella organization for building based parent organizations and provide a forum to share building views and information.
Vision of the Parent Advisory Council
The vision of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is to promote a supportive, positive and cooperative relationship between the District and all parents, students, community members and patrons.
Meetings
The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meets the third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
The PAC does not meet in June or July.

Riverview Gardens School District
The Riverview Gardens School District Parent/Teacher Resource Center works to achieve increased parental and community involvement by providing the following:
· Meeting space and public forums to give parents and community members an opportunity to talk with civic leaders, school board members, and school district administrative staff.
· Training and workshops for parents, teachers, principals, community, members, and civic leaders.
· A variety of resources such as flyers, books, brochures, magazines, audio and video tapes of interest to parents and community members; access to technology and the internet.
· A central location with quick and easy access to Riverview Gardens School District documents (i.e., school directories, long range planning documents, school assessment results, federal legislation, etc.)

Parent Advisory Council Committees
Membership Committee – Recruits PAC members, encourages participation, and maintains a current and active roster.
Legislative Committee – Keeps the PAC informed about changes in Federal Legislation (i.e. Title I and No Child Left Behind (NCLB).
Health and Wellness Committee – Provides information on current and requested health issues relating to the Riverview Gardens School District schools and community.
Public Relations/Social Committee – Plans district-wide activities and events for parents, students, and community members.
Parent Advisory Council Belief Statements
The Riverview Gardens School District Parent Advisory Council believes:
· Positive cooperation of home, church, community and school is essential for a student’s success.
· Students do best when parents and teachers work together as partners.
· Uniting parents, teachers and students of our District in the common goal of insuring the best educational programs possible and to create open channels of communication for all is essential.
· Parents need assistance in the development of skills needed for the education and protection of students.
· All students are unique and that individual differences must be cherished.
· While all students have the ability to learn, they learn in different ways and should be provided with a variety of instructional methods to support their learning.
· We must cultivate a closer relationship between parents and teachers in the education of our students.
· Collaboration is essential for parents and educators to develop the skills for the education and protection of students.
· Clear goals and high expectations for student achievement should drive the curriculum, instructional strategies, learning activities and assessment of student learning,
