This document collates responses from members of the group to two questions. Members worked in groups of 4 or 5 and wrote down the responses on flipcharts ….. here they are….. (in no particular order)

What do you do well in your library?

·  Helping with reading material: choice of books, library skills, resource books-topic related, teaching resources.

·  One to one literacy skills – small groups – full class.

·  IT research.

·  Work confidently with Alice.

·  General smooth running of library/Learning Centre.

·  Provide a welcoming and encouraging environment.

·  Teaching library skills.

·  Encourage literacy through reading.

·  Research resources for all users.

·  Make the environment conducive to learning with a friendly approach.

·  Evaluation and selection of printed resources (extended to selected multi-media resources).

·  Flexibility.

·  Sense of humour.

·  Good atmosphere for students and teachers – they feel welcome.

·  Good relationship with students, teachers and colleagues.

What do you hope to achieve in this INSET?

·  To develop IT skill considerably, to enable us to work confidently with children and alongside staff including internet/down loading information/programmes.

·  Trouble shooting.

·  Better use of computer facilities within our school.

·  Professional development.

·  Self confidence in ICT skills.

·  How to best use ICT to benefit students and users.

·  Positive contribution to the school development plan.

·  Better management of our resources.

·  Better skills to manage IT issues.

·  Understand the jargon, i.e. talk the talk.

·  Enhance communication between librarian and the school community.

·  Learn more about IT to help students and teachers in using resources.

·  Integrate IT into curriculum.

·  Learn more basic IT skills – to make life easier – so don’t need to rely on IT people!

·  More technical expertise.

·  How to build a library web page.

·  Practical IT to enhance library.

·  Help in planning future role of IT in libraries – what do we do with funds?

·  Greater understanding of UK databases – NGfL plus others.

·  Management and promotion of web sites.
