The Event

A Practice trial event was held at Mick Luscombe’s was a great success and a very enjoyable day for everyone who went. The colour trial made up of four mini sections set the previous day made for some difficult riding and challenging corners. Kurt Pickering’s fall backwards into a small creek was one of the day’s funnier moments. As everyone watched Kurt lean back and let his bike fall onto him leaving just his head sitting up out of the water. There was also his dad who had some very interesting attempts at a few sections and other places in between. We had some new riders that came along for the new trials year that showing us they will bring plenty of new competition this year.

The Sections

Section 1 was set in a creek and it showed of everyone’s skill in the mud and caught everyone out when they attempted it. Chris Gillespie arrived and thought he would go straight in and go for broke proving just how slippery the mud actually is, covering his entire right arm. Will ferrall showed some good riding and got through the section showing no fear on his new Beta 50.

Section two was below a table and under a nice shady tree that everyone took advantage of on the hot day. Nearly everybody did this section and there were very limited accidents until Chris tried to get up a rock later in the day when his new bike wasn’t running properly. This was also the section when Chris also tried to take out Leanne Luscombe who was video taping. Chloe Bayles and Scott Wellman showed some good riding to get through the section cleanly. The section had a tight right hand corner going up between two rocks that made for some tough riding for everyone that attempted it, making everyone really work hard for a clean or a one. Later on in the day Neil Berne had a crack with a few other people making it look easy.

Section 3 was set on the edge of a small dam and even though it didn’t look like much caught out nearly everyone that entered into it.

Kurt Pickering showed us just how easily the section could be cleaned followed by Pete and Chris Bayles. Brooke Luscombe bogged her 125 at the edge of the dam, fortunately though her trusty father/mechanic Mick was there ready to go and pull it out. Brooke left her bike to him which was very amusing watching Mick fumble up the proceeding hill while Chris Gillespie patiently waited in the section. This was the section that Ian and Scott Wellman found a reverse gear on their front wheel when going round a sharp left-hand corner that was hard even at the best of times.

The fourth and final section was made up of a steep hill climb that tested everyone’s ability to find traction with most finding it difficult but usually quite achievable. Dave Catt had some early trouble but soon worked that out and made it up the hill with ease. Mostly everyone who tried this section would agree that it was challenging but made you feel pretty good when you did get it in the end.

There have been a few changes to the 2011 season with there being no first round before the Tassie titles due to the insurance having some troubles. The insurance was made out to Tasmanian Motorcycle Club when it should have been Tasmanian Motorcycle Trials Club and was there for not acceptable. But this just means we will have to have an extra round or do something to even up the rounds for the end of year results. This will also mean that the entry forms for the 2 day and for our new season will have to be handed in at a practice day held at Meads on Sunday the 13th of February. Also there has been a small price increase to enter the two day this year by $10; this adds $10 to ALL of the entry fees for the event.

On the weekend before the 2 Day we will have a setting day for the 2 day and it would be great if as many people as possible came to make the day go smoothly and so we can get the sections set quickly and hopefully have time for a ride. If anyone is interested there will be a practice day a fortnight after the two day so that if there was a section that you just couldn’t get you can come back and try again, hopefully with a clean.

Tas Title Preparations

The Tas Title Meeting at Deloraine went well and we now have an updated Action Plan that we will be following to ensure we will be ready. I have sent it to your email addresses.

Good News - We decided to provide the Observers & Clickers with lunch & a drink at this Tas Title, as well as the usual Observer prizes.

As this will be the first trial we will ALL have to print out the TMTC Membership Form & the Tas Title Entry Form and fill them in and get them to Rosanne Langworthy… before the Tas Title would be good.

Those going to Eugenana Practice day can take them there.

Section Setting Day - Saturday 5 Mar 2011 10:00am

We need all hands on deck on this Saturday to set 12 sections for the Mt Joy - 2 Day Tas Title.

We want to form 4 teams who only have to build 3 or 4 sections each. As they say “Many hands make light work”.

There will be some other work around the site so please make an effort to attend.

Most sections are already fairly clear – but bring a pair of gloves a slash hook or whipper snipper and if you have one.

This worked really well last year - and as this is our feature event for the year we need it to go well
