FAQ about the admission of foreign students

Q. What are the qualifications for the admission?

A:(1) Foreign passport holders who have never held the status of Republic of China nationals and do not have Overseas Chinese student status at the time of their application

(2) Those students who have foreign passports, meet the following requirements, and have resided consecutively overseas for six years or more when applying.

A. Those who also hold Republic of China citizenship, but do not have household registration in Taiwan.

B. Those who also have held Republic of China citizenship and are applying at least eight years from the day they received permission from the Ministry of Interior to give up their Republic of China residency.

C. Those who are not Overseas students studying in Taiwan under the above two clauses and did not receive placement permission during the same academic year of the application from the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students.

(3) An applicant of foreign nationality, concurrently holding permanent residence status in Hong Kong or Macao, who does not have a household registration in Taiwan, and has resided overseas consecutively for 6 years or more at the time of application.

(4) An applicant who is a former citizen of PRC who holds foreign citizenship, does not have a household registration in Taiwan, and has resided consecutively overseas for 6 years or more at the time of application.

NOTE:

1. The six-year time period indicated above are calculated back from the starting date of the semester (February 1st or August 1st) as the designated date for the study period.

2. The term “reside consecutively overseas” means that foreign students may have stayed in Taiwan for no more than a total of 120 days per calendar year.

3. According to Article 2 of Nationality Law, those who meet any of the following requirements possess the nationality of ROC:

(1) Father or mother is a citizen of ROC when the applicant was born.

(2) Father or mother was a citizen of ROC, and the applicant was born after Father or Mother died.

(3) The applicant was born in ROC, whose parents were not known or were without the nationality of ROC.

(4) Those who were naturalized.

Those who were still non-adults when the amendments were made

and carried into execution were also under the regulations or

Clause 1 and 2.

Q. What are the required documents for the admission?

A:(1) one copy of the admission application form.

(2) One copy of the nationality certificate (Passport, Alien Resident Certificate, or Birth Certificate)

(3) Applicants with dual nationality need to issue the data of the past six years’ entry and exit provided by National Immigration Agency, and the certificate of losing the nationality of ROC.

(4) One copy of the highest diploma (certified by our overseas embassies) and the notarized Chinese or English translation of the diploma. The admitted students should submit the genuine diploma on enrollment, or their admission will be cancelled.

(5) Complete school transcript in English or Chinese (certified by our overseas embassies and with the stamp or seal of the graduation school).

(6) Study plan in Chinese or English.

(7) Three sealed letters of recommendation (including a letter of recommendation from the teacher teaching Chinese language.)

(8) The financial certificate which says the possessor has more than

NT$100,000 in his/her saving account. (If the certificate of

deposit does not refer to the applicant’s saving account, the

applicant has to issue a statement with the signature of the

financial supporter, stating the relationship with the applicant

and guaranteeing to provide financial support to the applicant

during his/her study in Taiwan.) If the applicant has applied for

any scholarship, he/she needs to submit a scholarship-issued

proof instead of the financial certificate.

(9) Autobiography.

(10) Affidavi.

(11) Letter of Authorization for Verification.

(12) Students from Myanmar need to issue a copy of paper TOEFL test scoring 500 or CBT TOEFL test scoring more than 173.

(13) Applicants should submit the documents listed above to

Division of Academic Affairs before the deadlines regulated in

different stages. Address: 700, Kaohsiung University Rd.,

deadline for the applications through mails is based on the dates of postal stamps; overdue applications are not accepted.( It is

suggested that applicants keep a copy of the mailed documents;

after the review, all of the documents are kept at NUK whether

the applicants are admitted or not.)

Q.Does NUK offers the health checkup form?

A. No.

Q.When will foreign students be informed of the information about theadmission?

A:According the schedule listed in the prospectus, the information about the admission will be publicized in the latest news of Admission Section website, and then the admission notice will soon be mailed to the students.

Q.Does NUK offer foreign students any scholarship? How do they apply for the scholarship?

Q. How do foreign students apply for the documents required for studying in Taiwan after being informed of the admission?

Q.How do foreign students apply for the admission to NUK?

A.1. The students can come to Admission Section to register or ask

others to register for them; the documents should be reviewed on

site.

2. For students who register by mail, please send the

application documents to 700, Kaohsiung University Rd.,

Nanzih District, 81148. Kaohsiung, Taiwan, R.O.C. The registration is based on the date of stamp, and overdue applications will be denied. (please keep a copy for all of the submitted documents; after the review, these documents will be filed at NUK no matter the applicants are admitted or not)

Q: Is the tuition paid each semester or each academic year?

A:Students always pay the tuition all at a time at the beginning of each semester.

Q:How do I know whether I have won the scholarship?

Q:What is the procedure of the application?

Step 1

Please make sure your identity meets the qualifications of foreign students. The qualifications should meet the qualifications regulated in “Procedures for Foreign Students Studying in Taiwan” promulgated by the Ministry of Education.http://law.moj.gov.tw/Eng/LawClass/LawAll.aspx?PCode=H0110001

Step 2

Please check the regulated periods, department/institute, and

department’s/institute’s regulations in each academic year.

Step 3

Complete filling out the application form, prepare for the required documents, and check whether there are any other documents required by the desired department/institute.

Step 4

Sign your name on the printed application form, the affidavit, and the affidavit for the document verification.

Step 5

Send the application documents by registered mail to Admission Section within the deadlines of each stage.
