Subcontracted Research Involving Animals

WFU receives U.S. federal funding for animal research and complies with all U.S. federal regulations for research involving live animals. As the primary recipient of an award for animal research, WFU is responsible for monitoring the use of animals at the subcontractor.

Questions concerning animal use and review should be directed to the principal investigator at WFU or the WFU Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

WFU-funded institutions that use animals in research, product development, testing and education projects must provide the following (electronic copies are preferred) to the WFU principal investigator at WFU for review and recordkeeping:

If “Yes”, submit a copy of the facility’s most recent USDA inspection report. A current inspection reportmust be submitted each year of your active grant award. Inspections noted violations must be forwarded by the WFU PI to the WFU IACUC.

  1. Subcontractor’s Semi-Annual IACUC inspections. Any significant deficiencies noted by the Subcontractors IACUC that are directly related to the award must be communicated to the WFU PI in a timely manner. The WFU PI must report these deficiencies to the WFU IACUC.

Non-accredited, Unassured Facilities: If the answer is “No” to either 6.a. or 6.b., then provide a letter signed by the Institutional Official that statesthe care and use of animals will be conducted in accordance with the National Research Council’s 2010 Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and applicable Animal Welfare Act rules and regulations.
