Wetland Scientist/Ecologist

Position Summary
The Everglades Foundation is seeking an experience Ph.D.-level wetland scientist as part of its Science Program. We are looking for a leader and first-rate communicator to make science-based recommendations for implementing environmental restoration of the Everglades.
Primary Responsibilities
The focus of this position is to work with public agencies and non-profit organizations, helping set science and restoration priorities. This is a senior-level position environmental science and ecology, requiring a range of career experiences and interests. You will provide expert advice, opinion, and testimony on Everglades wetland restoration. You will evaluate proposed projects to determine ecosystem response. You will compile and summarize the best available scientific information on the ecology of wetlands, identify restoration regimes, and determine appropriate structural and non-structural actions to achieve wetland restoration. You will work with governmental, non-governmental, and academic scientists, planners, and engineers on large-scale wetlands restoration projects.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in ecology, biology, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, or a closely related field, plus several years of practical experience. Ph.D. required.
- Excellent written and public communications skills, experience working with a variety of audiences.
- Significant (> 5 years) experience as an ecologist, wetland scientist, or environmental scientist.
- Experience with interagency water resources projects is desirable.
- Possess strong strategic thinking, organizational and people skills, be a self-starter, but able to work closely with directors and other staff.
- Mastery of essential professional tools, such as computer models, field methods, and communication vehicles (such as peer-reviewed journals).
- Ability to work independently to achieve results, given only broad goals and directions.
