Westhampton Beach High School

Reglas de la clase

  • Course Description .

Spanish III is not only the sequel to Spanish II, it is a course designed for those students who have achieved mastery in Spanish II. This course will continue to provide students with communicative language skills and to broaden their knowledge of Hispanic cultures. Students will work on correct pronunciation and be introduced to complex grammatical structures and patterns of the language. The purpose of this course is to continue the student’s mastering of the four functions – listening, speaking, reading, and writing on a variety of topics dealing with everyday life situations.

  • Behavior .
  • You are expected to be quietly seated and ready to work when the bell rings.
  • You are required to take notes.
  • You must raise your hand to ask or answer questions.
  • You are required to bring laptops, chargers, language packets, notes, binders, and pens to class.

Evaluation and Grading .

  • Quarterly grades will be evaluated based on tests, quizzes, daily homework assignments, compositions, projects, and class participation.
  • Make-up tests are given only if you are legitimately absent from the original test. If a student misses class the day of a scheduled exam, it is the student’s responsibility to make up the test.
  • Attendance and Participation .
  • Poor attendance and lateness will result in a lower participation grade. Activeclassroom participation is an integral part of learning a foreign language.
  • Students are expected to speak Spanish once inside the classroom.

Homework .

  • It is your responsibility to complete every homework assignment and come to class prepared to submit work and discuss work.
  • Partial credit is not rewarded for incomplete assignments.
  • You will begin this course with a 100% homework grade. Five points will be deducted for each missing assignment.
  • When absent, you will be given the number of days absent to make up missing homework. It is your responsibility to determine the material you have missed during your absence. If the homework is not made up within the required time period, it will result in an automatic zero. There are no make-ups for missed or incomplete assignments unless a student was legally absent.
  • CClass Trips and Appointments .
  • If you are aware of a class trip, appointment, etc. and you plan on being absent, it is your responsibility to make arrangements ahead of time, not after the absence. This means any homework must be done and the homework for the following day must also be ready. If a test falls on the date of your absence, you must take the test prior to your absence (see me). Failure to do so will result in a zero.

Extra Help .

  • Extra help will be offered to students on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:20 to 3:05. Extra help may also become mandatory if a student’s academic performance requires enhancement.

Materials .

  • A three-ring binder or a spiral notebook and folder. You will receive many handouts throughout the year. If you prefer to take notes on your laptop, you must have a folder/file exclusively for Spanish as well as a well-organized folder for all handouts.
  • A good Spanish dictionary is strongly recommended, as well as Barron’s 501 SpanishVerbs.
