Position Description

Position Title: Director of Leadership Circle & Founder’s Society

Department: Major Gifts

Reports to: Senior Vice President, Development & Corporate Communications

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

I.  Summary

Sustain and grow WNED | WBFO’s Major Gifts program supporting WNED TV, Classical 94.5 WNED, WBFO-FM 88.7 and ThinkBright & Well/ WORLD in all Western New York and Southern Ontario communities. Work with Senior Vice President at WNED | WBFO, and with major gifts representative at PBS Corporate to develop and expand our Planned Giving (Legacy) program (which includes the Foundation website, on-air appeals, various print material, and yearly events). Work closely with (major gift) Events Manager on the execution of multiple donor events in Western New York and Southern Ontario. Cultivate relationships with individual donors and provide “concierge level” service to WNED | WBFO contributors in various donor groups. Initiate and maintain relationships with other non-profit organizations for project collaborations. Lastly, Director works with various staff on company Capital Campaigns (as applicable).

II.  Duties & Responsibilities Monthly % of time

Sustain and grow the Major Gifts (individual giving) program. This includes the following donor clubs: Founder’s Society ($300 - $999), the Leadership Circle ($1000 - $2,499), Benefactor’s Society ($2,500 - $4,999), and President’s Council ($5,000 +).
Duties include:
·  Developing print and online solicitation materials, identifying new and cultivating current prospects, stewarding current major donors, and managing all communications.
·  Responsible for meeting or exceeding annual goals and managing major gifts/planned giving budgets.
·  Also responsible for keeping up-to-date on tax laws/ restrictions which impact giving patterns of donors at higher giving and legacy levels.
·  Provides “concierge level” service to members of various donor clubs. / 50%
Develop and expand a formal Planned Giving (Legacy) program. This includes:
·  Working in conjunction with Senior Director, Fundraising & Special Projects for on-air spot acquisition, creation and broadcast.
·  Coordinate with Project Director, Planned Giving at PBS Corporate to make sure WNED | WBFO is involved in national projects. Keep up to date with PBS Corporate re: current research on donor giving trends.
·  Monitor and coordinate updates (as necessary) to the WNED | WBFO Foundation website. Create print and online materials about the Legacy program.
·  Coordinate yearly events with major gifts Events Manager which target potential Planned Giving donors and provide information about the program.
·  Keep up-to-date on new tax laws/ restrictions which impact donor options to planned giving programs.
·  Work may sometimes include working with a WNED Board Committee to evaluate on-going activities and coordinate peer solicitation to target potential prospects / 20%
Work with Capital Campaign team to achieve campaign cultivation and revenue goals. / 20%
Pursue funding opportunities from individuals to support special projects as needed. Other duties as assigned to further the mission and goals of WNED | WBFO. / 10%

III.  Qualifications and Education Required

§  Bachelor’s degree required, plus relevant professional development experience gained from a responsible position at another non-profit organization

§  Demonstrated success in Major Gift development

§  Superior verbal and written communication skills

§  Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines

§  Flexibility in work hours is required as this position sometimes works non-traditional business hours (nights and/or weekends attending various events)

§  Ability to work effectively both alone and as part of a team

§  Some travel to Canada required
