Job Description

SUMMARY:

This position will be responsible for the day to day issues in accordance with corporate and divisional policies as directed by the General Manager and Engineering Manager. This position will be responsible for AutoCAD designing and support services associated with the division. This position requires approximately 5-10% of visible presence on the production floor working with the Quality Control Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES but not limited to:

  • Fully supports Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.
  • Ensure compliance with Westech Building Products’ design and drafting standards and practices.
  • May assist in the establishment or revision of guidelines and standards.
  • Establish and maintain consistent, high quality, accurate and relevant information required to be shown on production drawings.
  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding the Engineering group’s schedule.
  • Execute all typical drafting duties for the department including checking drawings.
  • Build and maintain a cooperative team environment within and between the Engineering group, sales and technical group and the production personnel.
  • Design PVC window and sliding glass door systems. Ensure compliance with the building codes, required standards and specifications, tolerances, safety factors, client requirements and other regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct in-house testing (air, water and structural) of PVC windows and sliding glass doors.
  • Build and prepare PVC windows and sliding glass doors for testing by independent labs.
  • Provide drawings, details and bill of materials on test units to be included in test reports.
  • Design reinforcing (steel and aluminum) inside PVC profiles and determine maximum spans for C1 to C5 structural ratings.
  • Prepare and maintain a list of reinforcing, their drawings and reinforcing charts.
  • Check hardware to be used on PVC windows and sliding glass doors and verify dimensions, fit and function with the designed PVC profiles and reinforcing. Review supplier data and supplier/manufacturer drawings as required.
  • Create and design new window parts.
  • Develop new fabrication manuals and revise existing fabrication manuals and the general manual as needed. Document accurately all modifications.
  • Maintain a list of dies in tooling. Check samples, revise, distribute and file die drawings.
  • Prepare fabrication drawings for tooling to process various PVC profiles for fabrication (end-milling, punching holes and cut-outs for drainage, screws and hardware placement, etc.).
  • Prepare and maintain a summary of AAMA and NFRC test reports.
  • Provide customers and technical sales representatives with technical information on PVC materials and products.
  • Perform changes/update production drawings and document accurately all modifications.
  • Attend weekly meetings with Westech staff to coordinate tool and die activities.
  • Request quotes from steel and aluminum tooling companies for various reinforcing designs.
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Desired Skills & Experience

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: The minimum requirements for education and experience are listed below. Consideration will be given to individuals with an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • AutoCAD certified, fluent in 2-dimensional drawings in AutoCAD 13 and knowledge of CAD commands
  • 3D would be an asset
  • Must be disciplined, have a strong work ethic and work autonomously with limited intervention from the senior management group.
  • Must have advanced computer competencies in: Motion CAD, Solid Works, Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Access and Outlook, SAP would be an asset
  • Possess a high level of proficiency in both written and verbal communication skills.
  • Direct industry related experience and multiple written and oral language competencies will be considered definite assets.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with ability to develop concepts and actionable strategy and planning
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to train, coach and mentor others
  • Must be able to multi task and display a high level of Company/Team spirit.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and at time stressful situations

The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Any lifting in excess of 50 pounds requires assistance from another employee. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. 25% of the time may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection and safety boots. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.
