CALL TO ORDER – Katie Cooper
Meeting called to order by Katie Cooper at 6:56pm
SECRETARY REPORT – Danielle Duvall
Review and approval of minutes from Winter Retreat. Spelling mistakes noted, Danielle will correct. Karen Martin motions to accept minutes as amended. JoAnn Ross seconds. Motion carries unanimously.
PRESIDENT REPORT – Katie Cooper
Welcome to Thomas Ratliff, MASFAA President and our guest for the week. Introductions.
Congratulations to Kathy Bialk for being elected Treasurer-elect for MASFAA.
Katie Cooper serving as Professional Development Co-Chair for MASFAA.
Katie Cooper attended ILASFAA(Illinois) Conference as state exchange. She presented twice. It was a great conference. They did an ILASFAA table within their exhibitors to promote the association and volunteerism which is a great idea we could carry over into our conferences.
We will be promoting MASFAA Summer Institute throughout the conference. Katie Cooper is on faculty for it this year.
The West Virginia representative for Leadership Symposium is James Buchanan from WV State University.
PAST-PRESIDENT REPORT – Kathy Bialk
Election report: Debbie Turner is our upcoming President-Elect. Danielle Duvall is unable to serve her second term. Karen Martin was selected to serve in her stead. Discussion about change in Constitution to elect Associate Member Representative.
Kathy Bialk serving on Programmatic Road to Relevance Committee for MASFAA. A survey was sent out to help determine the needs of MASFAA members.
TREASURER REPORT – Jeanie Spitznogle
Provided Fall Conference Report. We had a profit of $1,171.45 with one registration payment pending.
Provided Cash Totals Report through April 25, 2017. Current balance of $37,128.76 not including Spring Conference.
Provided General Ledger. Current balance of $65,618.99.
Audit is almost complete, hopes to have report at summer transition meeting.
PRESIDENT-ELECT REPORT – JoAnn Ross
Working on Spring Conference. Pulling Executive Council together. Fall Conference will be in Charleston November 1-3, 2017. Summer transition meeting information forthcoming.
SPRING CONFERENCE – Chester Priest & JoAnn Ross
Excited for Thursday night’s Anniversary Celebration. Packets are done. Hospitality suite is room 315. We have 8 exhibitors this conference they will be in the Aspen Room with the silent auction. Thank you to Carrie Waters for her hard work on the programs. We have 127 registered attendees including 9 business officers. The oldest person will be 86, past presidents dating back to 1973, those past presidents who couldn’t make it were asked to send remarks that will be read on Thursday evening. Sessions are on website. Thank you to Jeanie Spitznogle for putting together all the nametags.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & TRAINING – Brian Weingart
Not in attendance. No report.
LONG-RANGE PLANNING – Carla Strawn
Not in attendance. No report.
FINANCIAL AID TRAINING FOR COUNSELORS – Karen Martin
Will be sending out save the dates in May to High School Counselors for workshops in September. Registration will be in early August.
MEMBERSHIP – Alisha Nickolich
We have 19 new members registered for Spring Conference. Ice breakers are planned for the Newcomers Reception at 11am in Spruce. Please stop by if you can. Gifts are fifty cent chocolate pieces inside travel mugs.
SOCIAL MEDIA – Sarah Musgrave
Advertising conference and will be promoting sessions during the conference. We have 4 new likes on Facebook since our last meeting. Feel free to forward information to Sarah when you see it.
AUXILLIARY MEMBERS – Chris Baker
Offering Financial Aid 101 session for Auxiliary Members. 10 Auxiliary members are registered for this conference and many of them are moderating. Not sure about future attendance due to finances but will keep trying.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERS – Matt Nettleton
Not in attendance. No report.
CONSTITUTION & BYLAWS, POLICY & PROCEDURES – Candi Frazier
Donated computers. Discussion. Tabled until summer transition meeting. Could missing minutes be on old secretary’s laptop? Danielle Duvall will check. There is a missing membership year. That was the year the constitution/by-laws changed definition of membership year.
AWARDS – JoAnn Ross
We have a lot of awards to give out for years of service and retirees. Only giving NASFAA Belts to those in attendance.
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION – Consuela Phillips
Diversity questions were added to survey and we got great feedback. A diversity session will be offered at Spring Conference as well as a Privilege Walk.
