AG motion to approve previous minutes, KWsecond. Motion approved.

Vice Principal’s Report

  • Senator Bates office contacted us about Screen Free Week. Mrs. Steger and Penny Jones will represent the school in planning this event, which will be May 2-8. Information will go out to parents soon.

Treasurer’s Report:

  • Kohls grant was declined by Eldersburg, but we’re still in the process for the Ellicott City store.
  • Tiger Madness exceeded budgeted income by $2407.05. Discussion of event successes and how to improve ticket sales for future events.

PTACHC

  • Board of Education candidates attended the meeting. Candidate statements are included in the attached meeting minutes.
  • Discussion of Drug Take Back Day, which is a drive thru event on April 30th.
  • Discussion of 900 new affordable housing units planned for downtown Columbia.

Spring Festival

  • Friday May 6, 2016. Flyer is in process of being approved.

Nominating Committee

  • There are open executive committee and committee positions. The committee is in the process of ascertaining who is interested in returning as a committee chair, and of encouraging members to consider committee positions.

Box Tops

  • One more race in May

Community Outreach

  • Barnes and Noble night is on April 19 at 6:30pm. Staff from both schools will be reading aloud. Book donations are currently being accepted in front of the WFES office.

5th Grade Memories

  • Tee shirt design is finalized, and being printed in the next week so the shirts are available for the next field trip.
  • Books are being ordered from Tree Ring; the committee is looking for advice on whether parents should pay the PTA or Tree Ring directly.
  • The committee needs more pictures from parents.

New Business

Margaret Ottenritter brought up the idea of bringing a drama program back to West Friendship Elementary; Mindi Lawton with The Right Theater Company would like to offer the PTA a proposal to bring theater back to the school. FR suggested they email both he and Mr. Tark their proposal so we can proceed from there.
