Wellness and Prevention Services Expert-Led Lessons

Wellness and Prevention Services provides two areas of expert-led presentations: sexual health and alcohol and other drugs. If you are only able to bring one of these presentations to your class, our department recommends the sexual health presentation since students have a mandatory section of alcohol and other drugs at orientation and also students are “required” to take an on-line alcohol education program.

Expert-Led Lesson: Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Education

Department:Wellness and Prevention Services – Alcohol & Other Drug Education Office

Brief Description: College students’ choices regarding alcohol-use are often strongly influenced by the degree to which they think their peers drink. This is often an overestimated assumption. The purpose of this interactive presentation is to provide students with correct information to create incongruences with their incorrect perceptions. These incongruences can start to impact student behavior.

During this interactive session, students will use live audience participation software to compare their perceptions of their peers alcohol use to their own behavior in real time. Discussions will center around institutional cultural, contextual and developmental causes for misperception as well as its impact on college students’ behavior. The facilitator will also review information that was covered in AlcoholEdu, such as BAC, tolerance, and alcohol poisoning.

How to Sign Up:If you would like to schedule a presentation, please contact Colby Zongol: AOD Coordinator at 860-486-6542 or .
