Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund

Veterinary Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is pleased to announce the first round of the Veterinary Postdoctoral Fellowship, supported by the Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund.

These Fellowships are to support veterinary PhD graduates in developing research ideas and preliminary data which can be used for external Fellowship applications. Applications should be structured with specific future funding schemes in mind and should normally take place within the group/laboratory where applicants propose to undertake future research. Fellowships are for up to 1 year.

Eligibility: Veterinary PhD graduates, either immediately after completion of PhD or with some postdoctoral research experience. Fellowships are to be based at University of Liverpool but support for visits outside the University can be requested, if they can be justified for developing collaborations for future funding applications.

Eligible costs: Salary costs and research expenses. Animal costs for lab studies will need to be explicitly justified and comply with the Wellcome Trust's policy on animal use.

Match funding expectations: Match funding is expected but not specified

Requirements from awardees: A short report at the end of the funding period detailing how funds were used. Awardees are to respond to periodic requests for updates on further funding, publications and promotions. Additionally, awardees are to ensure all publications reference support from the Wellcome Trust and are made gold open access. Separate funding is available for this.

It is recommended that applicants contact Peter Clegg (), Head of Institute, Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease, to discuss before starting an application.

Please send your completed application form, with a 2 page CV, to Peter Clegg () and Sophie Archard (), HLS Faculty Research and Impact Officer, by Monday 30 April 2018. Decisions will be made by a panel convened in May, chaired by the Head of Institute, Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease.
