August Newsletter

Unfortunately, July saw two of our directors receive some considerable medical treatment so please send your positive thoughts to Di Mooy and Duncan Wilson. We are aware that toward the end of July there had been some more positive outcomes and we wish for a speedy recovery for them both.

Well the financial year has been completed and the auditors Daley & Co are busy on behalf of the members to verify that all checks and procedures are in place and to validate our end of year financial outcome. This process still has a way to go but we are expecting a healthy report and a very much improved financial outcome for 2017.

You may have noticed that we have been trialling some fresh new colours around the club and we have received plenty of helpful feedback from members. This project is necessary to freshen up the club and we apologise for any inconvenience the process may be causing. We look forward to completing the task before the end of August.

We wish the Malua Bay Men’s number 3 Pennant Team every success for this weekend’s Maitland playoffs. It is rewarding to see the number 3 team play for its 3rd flag in four years having previously won the flag and the runners up flag.

Rumour of the Month (July) would have it that as bowlers in Malua Bay they now boast the most expensive greenfee in the zone, so perhaps some sober commentary will not be amiss. Green fees charged by Club Malua are now $8 after a rise from $7 – the first increase in quite a while.This green fee is set in place to assist Club Malua meet some of the costs associated with the provision of greens facilities. As we like to keep appraised of market influences, we are aware that the clubs in our zone are charging;

Malua Bay $8

Tomakin $10

Tuross $10

Moruya $10

Narooma $12

Dalmeny $12

Bermagui $8

Bodalla $10

Some clubs (or sub-clubs) add a jackpot fee or fundraising fee on top of these, but this is the basic green fee to these clubs.

I am aware that Malua Bay Women’s Bowling Club does not apply a fundraising fee (or other) on top of the green fee, so then the green fee is $8. However, the Malua Bay Men’s Bowling Club does impose an additional fee of $4 for other purposes but this is not receipted to CLUB Malua nor used for the provision of our greens facilities. Perhaps it would be less confusing if this additional $4 raised by the men’s committee was not referred to as green fee.

To sum up this green fee matter for members and contrary to the ministry for propaganda, there is no club in the zone that charges less green fee than Club Maluawhich is a far cry from “the most expensive in the zone” with some clubs charging 50% more green fee.Recently some of our travelling bowlers have reported paying a $20 green fee in Queensland and Victoria so well-done Club Malua.

The free hot finger food in our sports bar on Saturdays at about 2pm has been very welcomed so, we have extended this to include the month of August.

The 25th of August will see the official notification for the opening of Nominations to the Board of Directors. This will close on Monday 25th of September at 12 mid-day. We will host a Future Director information session on Monday 21st of August at 3.30pm,so this is a must for aspiring Directors.
