AMBER ROOM

/ Greeks trusted that amber is the hardened beams of the sun. Imagine a room completely covered by panels of amber, flaring and radiating light - it is no wonder, that the Amber room in Tsarskoe Selo was considered as the Eighth Miracle of light. King of Prussia Fridrih Wilhelm I has presented the Room, as diplomatic gift to Peter Velikomu in 1717 after Peter has admired with this miracle during visit in Sharlottenburg, Berlin.

/ The Amber Room has been established in the Winter Palace, but per 1755 Empress Elizabeth has charged to architect Franchesko Rastrelli to move it in Екатерининский the Palace. Separate panels of amber of 76 guardsmen have transferred from St.-Petersburg up to Tsarskoe Selo for six days. They were not enough greater to fill new 100 meters of a decor, therefore have been added a mosaic and mirror, and the top part стенок has been specially painted to simulate amber. During the Second World war occupational armies have removed amber panels in September 1941, and they have been brought to the Alfred Sort, head Kenigsberg’s of the Art Museum. A part of the Amber Room last time saw at an exhibition in the Kenigsberg Castle before it was hided in catacombs. The riddle begins with this moment.

/ There is a legend, that amber has been burnt at hit of a bomb when it moved to Germany under Hitler's instruction, and that its rests are hidden in the vaults of the lock lasting on many kilometers. The advanced and encouraging theory is that during transportation Germany, panels were hided in mine at the Baltic coast.

/ The legend about the lost Amber Room has inspired directors of cinema, writers and hunters behind treasures. Estimated today in more than 142 million dollars, it would be a grandiose find.
There were 4 Florentine mosaics in decorating the Amber room which have been created in Florence (Italy). Mosaic panels are 5 allegories: hearing, taste, sight, sensation of a smell, sensation of a touch.

/ Two mosaics are already again recreated by masters "Amber Workshop of Tsarskoe Selo" (" Sight and feeling of a smell ", "Feeling of a touch ").
All subjects are made of quartz, a jasper, amber, lazurite, a greenstone, onyx, agate, using techniques of jeweler art.

/ The group of masters on amber worked as the Amber workshop since 1982, with the purpose of a reconstruction of a magnificent Amber Room. For revival of old art on amber, our masters deeply investigated and use old methods of work with amber.
There are no doubts that the wide experience, new technologies and a high level of skill will allow to recreate the Amber Room. The amber Panels already established in interior of the Palace give hope of fast revival of a miracle. At the same time, at a reconstruction of the Amber Room of the masters make set of objects of decorative art.
