WE APPROACH GOD

OUR SHARED MINISTRY: Welcome & Announcements

MINUTE PERSON: Darlene Laferriere (Pie Project)

*♫OPENING HYMN: Come In, Come In and Sit Down

(VU 395)

CALL TO WORSHIP:

All of Creation comes from God, and has its being in God.

We also belong to God, and have our being in God.

Open your doors, all who seek to follow God’s way.

We open our doors to God—the doors of our churches, our homes, and our hearts.

May God come and dwell in our midst.

Come and dwell with us, Holy One. Make us your own again in this time of worship.

♫INTROIT: All That We Are-S. Tempel

PRAYER OF CONFESSION:

Here’s how a modern translation from today’s Epistle reading goes: “Here’s what I want you to do: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.” We bring before God not only that which will please God, but that which obstructs and distorts God’s purposes. Let’s pray together:

God of acceptance, God of understanding—

Take these ordinary lives. Take our living. Take our good intentions. Take our mistakes, too. Take our joy, take our hurt. We offer you all of it…

(A moment of silence for personal confession)

The same translation continues, as it speaks about growing in faith: “God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”

God accepts you, loves you, and will work through even the parts of you that you don’t like. God accepts you—accept what God offers you. Amen.

Go out as God’s friends,

Be unafraid to question,

Relentless in your search for the Truth,

Willing to act on what you discover,

Patient when the journey is rough,

And joyful when you reach your goal.

And every step of the way,

Know that God will be your companion.

*♫CHORAL ENDING: (VU 639)

One more step along the world I go,

one more step along the world I go,

from the old things to the new,

keep me travelling along with you:

And it’s from the old I travel to the new;

keep me travelling along with you.

Give me courage when the world is rough,

keep me loving though the world is tough,

leap and sing in all I do,

keep me travelling along with you: R
