WELCOME TO TIGERS BASEBALL

About the Team

The Tigers team was originally started in the Spring as the Athletics. With the departure of the team’s previous head coach, I took over the head coaching chair to lead the program going forward. Since it was a new start (and to avoid “green team verses green team” games like we had last season), I opted to change the team’s name. Being a native of Louisiana and an LSU Tiger myself, I opted to go for the Tigers as the team’s new mascot with the team colors being purple and gold.

As for myself, I have been coaching my two sons in the great game of baseball since 2007. This will be my eighth season coaching, but my first as head coach. I am very thankful for the offers by team dads and moms to assist in coaching and other duties throughout the season. If you would like to help out during practices and/or games please let me know.

Parent Code of Conduct

I know that it can be very easy for all of us to get caught up in the excitement of the game and be very passionate about what happens on the field. That said, I cannot stress enough the importance of everyone displaying good sportsmanship both on the field and in the stands. We are all here to support our children, teaching them how to present themselves in a positive and respectful manner even in challenging situations. I can assure you that the umpires will make bad calls during the season, whether it is a blown call on the basepaths or a pitch outside of the strikezone that is called for strike three, it will happen. The umpires are not perfect…they are human just like the rest of us and will make mistakes. It is very important in these situations that we as parents, coaches and fans keep our cool and show good sportsmanship. Please do not argue or make negative comments about the umps in these situations. Our boys will learn from us and emulate our actions accordingly. If we keep our cool as parents and coaches, our kids will too.

One of the documents that is included in this packet is the Parent Code of Conduct from the FBSA. I am asking that our team parents review this document, sign it and return it to me prior to our first game.

Birth Certificates

If you have not already done so, please be sure to send a copy of your son’s birth certificate to Laurie Lahey at the FBSA. Her email address is . They can also be faxed to (214) 436-4925 or mailed to the following address:

FBSA

PO Box 1976

Frisco, TX 75034

Additionally, I would ask that you provide me with a copy of the birth certificates (which I will bring with me along with the team roster to each game in the event that anyone on our team is challenged for eligibility).

Uniform/Equipment Needs

The league provides a Jersey and Cap to each player. Additionally, each player is required to have the following:

  • Gold Socks
  • Gold Belt
  • White Baseball Pants with Belt Loops
  • Fielding Glove

Additionally, the following items are highly recommended:

  • Cleats
  • Sliding Shorts
  • Protective Cup (required for anyone playing Catcher during games and practices)

All players will need the following, and while having their own equipment is preferred, they may be able to borrow from other players in games and practices:

  • Batting Helmet (required for batting during games and practices)
  • Bat (Please review the attached information detailing the FBSA’s bat specifications regarding bat legality)

This equipment is available at local sporting goods stores like Frisco Sports Center on Lebanon or Dick’s Sporting Goods in the Stonebriar Mall. I have enclosed discount coupons for Dick’s Sporting Goods in this packet.

Official Team Jerseys and Caps for Parents and Fans

If you would like your own Team Jersey and/or Cap, they can be ordered through Frisco Sports Center. All orders must be turned into Frisco Sports Center by August 8th. Jerseys cost $18 and Caps are $10. If you would like to volunteer to be an Assistant Coach, I encourage you to purchase a Jersey and Cap (though it is not required by FBSA). Note that all Jerseys ordered in this fashion will NOT have numbers on the back. If you are interested please fill out the form that is included in this packet and return it to Coach Chris along with a check payable to Frisco Sports Center covering the cost at the August 6th practice or to Frisco Sports Center no later than August 8th.

Website

As previously noted I will be regularly updating the team website throughout the season. The site will contain important dates (for games and practices), game and player stats, and hopefully photos from the games.

The URL and password for the site are:

Games

The schedule has not yet been posted by the FBSA but I have been told that our regular season games will be played on Saturdays. If any of our games are rained out we may have make-up games during the week. Also, our pre-season and post-season tournaments will likely have at least one game during the week.

Staying Hydrated

I cannot stress enough the importance of staying hydrated during games and practices. Please be sure to send water, Gatorade, or something similar with your son to each game and practice. It WILL get hot during practices and games, especially in August.

Thanks to each and every one of you for allowing me to the opportunity to teach your sons about the great game of baseball. If you have any questions, please let me know.

I am looking forward to a great season!
