Welcome to the math class at SWS and to room 207! I hope that you are as excited as I am about the school year. To help you achieve success in my class, I want you to become familiar with my expectations and your responsibilities. Together, we can achieve a great deal of success.

I feel that communication is an important part of your success. If you have any questions, concerns, and/or problems, please come and talk to me. One of my responsibilities as your teacher is to help you understand the required content, therefore, please do not hesitate to ask for additional help in class if you do not understand something.

I wish the very best to all of you as you begin your middle school experience. I challenge each of you to take advantage of ALL of the opportunities that are available to you at SWS and to strive to always do you best. Enjoy your year!

  3. Read the directions on the overhead and follow all instructions. Please get out all necessary materials. This would be a good time to sharpen pencils. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SHARPEN PENCILS AFTER THE SECOND BELL.

  5. Keep desks and floor clear of trash.
  6. Keep all four legs of the chair on the floor.
  7. Each student is responsible for classroom materials and supplies that are used during class. Please put away such material and supplies to their respective places upon completion of the assignment/activity.
  8. Each student must ask for the teacher’s permission before leaving the classroom. Use the appropriate hand signal for going to the bathroom, then sign out on the Bathroom sheet and take a hall pass.
  9. DO NOT PACK UP BELONGINGS WHILE the teacher or a classmate is talking.
  10. All students must be in their own seats to be dismissed BY THE TEACHER.

Discipline Consequences

  • Refer to the behavior and consequence contract.

Notebooks

Each student will have a notebook for math. Inside it must have 3 dividers for math, with the labels: class work, homework, and quizzes/tests. We will put your notebook together in-class during the first week of school. All work will stay in your notebook.

Classroom Folder:

In the back of the room is a classroom folder in which missing assignments, action plans, and a tardy/bathroom checklist are located. If you are ever absent it is the responsibility of the student to record the homework assignment from the board or from a classmate and retrieve the homework assignment from the toolbox. For full credit the assignment is due the day after the first day returning to school. Half credit will be given if turned in the day after that. If there is a discipline problem in the classroom and an action plan needs to be filled out, the action plans are also located in the classroom folder. Going to the bathroom while Ms. Casazza is teaching a lesson is not allowed. Students will use the bathroom at the beginning of class. When there is an appropriate time and it is an emergency, give the bathroom signal to Ms. Casazza then sign out on the bathroom list.

Homework

Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday with no more than twenty math problems. Homework is assigned as practice and reinforcement of the concepts and skills learned in the classroom. It is very important that you complete ALL of your assignments in full and turn them in on time to receive the maximum credit. ALL assignments are due the next school day unless special instructions are given ahead of time.

ALL assignments must be completed on time and in full to receive credit. Assignments not brought to class on time will receive HALF CREDIT after one day and NO CREDIT after two days. I am aware that situations may arise and an assignment cannot be completed. If this is the case you mustbring in a note from your parent in lieu of the assignment and you may then make up the assignment the next day for full credit.

If you are aware that you will not be at school for more than one day due to vacation you must inform Ms. Casazza at least one week ahead of time. Ms. Casazza will give you the materials BEFORE you go on vacation, not after the vacation. When you return back to school the homework will be due that first day or you will receive half credit on the second day it is late.

Absences

It is YOUR responsibility when you return from an absence to get your make-up work. You will find your absent work in the Classroom Folder located in the back of Ms. Casazza’s classroom. Please complete your assignments and submit for full credit the next day. If there is more than one day absent please see Ms. Casazza about an appropriate time schedule for turning in work. Students are required to make up a Quiz or Test before or after school, not during class time. Please see Ms. Casazza if there is a problem with your transportation.

Quizzes and Tests 

In order to be successful on quizzes and tests it is necessary to have good attendance, participate in class, keep accurate notes, and complete assignments. You will be assessed frequently.

IReady:

IReady is a new tool that the county is using. Students are required to complete 45 minutes in math each week. I will be counting IReady as a grade for participation. If they complete 45 minutes a week, they get a 100% for the week. Every Friday, I will give students a chance to get their 45 minutes in during class. They also can work on IReady at home, following the link on my website.
