FROM THE PASTOR DESK
DearChurch Family,
It is with a great an amount of appreciation for the work put into the 87th Anniversary Year, that I wish to thank all of you. The Committee did a great job. All of the invited former Pastors did an outstanding presentation of preaching on their respective Sundays.
I personally enjoyed all of the events leading up to the last Sunday in November, which was a great day of celebration. I especially enjoyed that both the Senior Choir and Gospel Chorus sang on the same Sunday. It was truly wonderful. The attendance at the after Worship Service at the Harvest Dinner gathering was outstanding.
Your In Christ,
Rev. Thomas A. Jackmon, Sr.
The word ADVENT means, “coming” or “arrival.”
The focus of the entire season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ in His First Advent.
The Second Advent candle is traditionally the candle of anticipation or looking forward to. It is celebrating a truth about God, the revelation of God in Christ whereby all of creation might be reconciled to God. That is a process in which we participate, and consummation of which we anticipate. Scripture reading for Advent will reflect this emphasis on the Second Advent, including themes of accountability for faithfulness at His coming, judgment on sin, and the hope of eternal life.
In this double focus on past and future, Advent also symbolizes the spiritual journey of individuals and a congregation, as they affirm that Christ has come, that He will come again in power. That acknowledgement provides a basis for Kingdom ethics, for holy living arising from a profound sense that we live “between the times” and are called to be faithful stewards of what is entrusted to us as God’s people. So, as the church celebrates God’s in breaking into history in the Incarnation, and anticipates a future consummation to that history for which “all creation is groaning awaiting its redemption,” it also confesses its own responsibility as a people commissioned to “love the Lord your God with all your heart” and to “love your neighbor as yourself.”

Money is an excellent gift of God, answering the noblest ends. In the hands of his children it is food for the hungry, drink for the thirsty, raiment for the naked… a means of health to the sick, of ease to them that are in pain. It may be as eyes to the blind, as feet to the lame…
