Welcome to Lancaster Middle School Regents Living Environment

Mr. Tylenda

The advanced science, “Regents Living Environment” is usually offered to students in 9th grade. We are providing your son/daughter with an opportunity to take this course in 8th grade. This will allow them to prepare to take advanced placement courses at the High School.

This course is rigorous and requires discipline and maturity. There is a vast amount of information to be covered and there will be homework every night. This course also has laboratory requirements.

The requirements follow those laid out in the New York State Regents Syllabus. These requirements include at least thirty 40-minute laboratory periods or its equivalent of 1200 minutes. Included in this are four state mandated labs. The laboratory experiments will provide the students with an opportunity to demonstrate the required Regents Laboratory skills. Satisfactory written reports must be submitted by the announced deadline as stated by the instructor before a student is admitted to the final Regents examination in June.

A written laboratory report will be considered satisfactory and accepted toward the required total when it is graded by the teacher and receives a grade of 65% or higher before any points are subtracted as a penalty for turning the report in late. Each lab report will be graded upon a set list of criteria set forth by the instructor. If a student receives an unsatisfactory grade for a written lab report, the student may resubmit the report to receive a satisfactory grade within the time limits set forth by the instructor in order to qualify for the final Regents examination.

Mastery level for this course is 85%.

After school help will be from 2:30-2:55. Please make sure that your son or daughter checks with me before staying after school. Some days we have meetings and cannot meet with students. There are late buses on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Please do not purchase a Regents review book for the exam until further notice.

Tentative exam date is June 11th, 2013.
