From the Pastor

They say “A change is as good as a holiday”. That might possibly be true when a longed for change brings relief from intense pressure or eases a burden and makes life easier. But change can also produce stress, uncertainty and restlessness which is definitely not like a pleasant relaxing holiday! That was my experience this week. Last Sunday afternoon Robyn and I went to Wangaratta to stay in our camper trailer in the driveway of the house we recently sold. The grass was long and thick, and I spent a solid three hours mowing. We tidied up and Robyn did some cleaning. I took cuttings from roses. We enjoyed oranges, mandarins and lemons from trees we planted. We spent an evening with friends and we went for a great walk in the Warby Ranges. We met the purchasers of our property who called in when they saw us in the yard. My Mum and Dad came up on the train on Tuesday afternoon to be with us. We said goodbye to the house and the memories it held for us when we lived there from 1997-2003, and arrived home at nearly 10pm on Tuesday night. When I awoke on Wednesday morning grief came in like a raging flood as the reality of the change we had set in motion sa`nk in. The sense of sadness and loss was very heavy. Throughout the day feelings were up and down with regret, uncertainty, worry, fear, doubt and anger. I was questioning our decision to sell. The feelings and thoughts that come when we deal with change and face grief are intense and painful. I continue to process the impact of the change, and I choose to focus my mind to look ahead with hope as we trust God for the future. I find myself reminded of how difficult grief is, and more aware of what others are experiencing. Here are some encouraging words from Lamentations 3. 22 The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. 23 Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. 24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” 25 The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him. 26 So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.

Welcome to visitors today. Please come and join with us after the service for a cup of tea/coffee.

A catastrophic famine is sweeping across Africa. Twenty million men, women and children are at risk of starvation in South Sudan, Nigeria and Somalia, with severe drought conditions in Kenya, Niger, Malawi and Ethiopia. Families have run out of emergency food aid, and children grow hungrier by the day. Pray relief will get through to those in such need.

Prison Network: Praise God for His miraculous healing power. David Osborne has had good results from the last two chemo sessions, with improved liver function and lower tumour marker, which will help improve his quality of life. Please continue to pray for him and his family. Serenity’s trial begins this month. Pray God will enable her to stand firm in her faith whatever the outcome.

Bible League International: Church planters have completed their training in Armenia. Ask God to show them how to continue to be active and effective in their local communities.

ESA: Pray for those preparing for camps during the school holidays.

Pray for peaceful solutions for the tension that exists between North Korea and USA and their allies.

Pray our Prime Minister and Members of Parliament will seek God’s guidance in the decision making.

Most families would have some non-Christian members. Remember daily to keep them in your prayers for their salvation.

Pray for Michelle Taylor as she adjusts to a wheelchair.

Pray for Evangeline, Navin and Nathan as they care for a new baby, Rachel, in their home. Praise God Evengeline’s mother was able to join them during this time.
