Special consideration is a post examination adjustment or calculationto the mark of a student. It is intended to reflect a temporary illness, injury or otherdisposition at the time of the assessment.

There are two different kinds of special consideration, a disadvantagedpercentage which happens when a student sits an exam underadverse circumstances, or agrade calculation which happens when a student misses an examination due to adverse circumstances.

A disadvantage percentage ranges from 1 to5 percent.The percentage is based on various factors which may vary from one subject toanother, however they primarily include the severity of the circumstance; the date of the examination in relation to the circumstance; and the nature of theassessment.

The calculation. Chapter four page eight of the JCQ documentexplains the policies on awarding or declining requests for an absent student.

When a student has missed a timetabled component for acceptable reasons, and thisrequest is supported by a centre, an adjustment may be made to the student'sgrade.

Minimum requirements for enhanced grading case of acceptable options isnormally fifty percent of the total assessment.

After you have submitted your request,you are able to view all requests for a series. Back to that special considerationmodule in e-AQA, you have a heading ‘View requests’, click on that to see all your requests.

You’ll be able to see that there are four possiblestatus of the outcomeof your special consideration request:

  • theapplication will be in pending
  • the application will be in pending and asking for further evidence
  • the application will be rejected for which you will have a reason
  • or, the application will have been accepted.
