WELCOME to 7th GRADE SCIENCE2015-2016

Your 7th grade science team consists of Ms. J. Coffey-Wray, Ms. C. Galvan, and Mrs. E. Rodriguez. We are excited to be part of your 7th grade learning experience.

We will be studying a variety of science topics this year as we prepare for the 8th grade. Success in our classes isguaranteed only with effort and desire on your part as well as ours. Working together we will achieve your personal goals and meet the high expectations that we have for all of you.

Below is a list of basic materials and some “pointers” that will help you to be successful in class.

Students will receive a “consumable” textbook. The textbook is designed for you to write in and highlight the text. All students are responsible for maintaining the book and bringing it to class each day. Should a textbook become severely damaged (unusable) or lost there will be a fee to obtain an additional copy.

  • 2 composition books (1 for each semester)
  • GT Students will need an additional composition book for their GT showcase project
  • Behavior Expectations – We believe that all students can behave appropriately in the classroom. We will not tolerate behavior that disrupts the learning environment preventing the ability of all students to learn.

  • Cheating will result in a zero for ALL students involved
  • Academic honesty is ESSENTIAL for success
  • Ask for help long before you are having major problems
  • Homework/Classwork should be neat and turned in on time.
  • Tests will be announced in advanced
  • Study everyday, so that you do not have to cram the night before
  • Attend tutoring sessions
  • Wednesday mornings (8:00 – 8:30am)in room 408
  • Additional sessions may be arranged in advance as needed with your teacher.
  • Test Day / Grading Policy / Late Work Policy
  • Test days are Monday and Thursday
  • Averages are calculated as follows
  • 60% Test/Major grades
  • 35% daily
  • 5% homework
  • Late Work Penalties
  • -10 points per day on major assignments – zero on day 5
  • -30 points first day for daily work and homework, minus an additional 10pts each day after – zero on day 4
  • Make Up Work
  • YOU are responsible for all make up work
  • Must be turned in per handbook guidelines
  • Make up assignments, notes, handouts, etc. will be available for YOU to pick up at a designated area in the classroom – if not ASK

Final Points

  • TUTORING. Students that are disruptive during a tutoring session will be asked to leave immediately. Students that routinely disrupt the normal class period or are chronically unprepared for class may be informed they cannot attend a tutoring session. Your time and ours is valuable; tutoring is meant to help you maximize your potential not waste your time.
  • LAB SAFETY. The safety of ALL students is the instructor’s and student’s responsibility, therefore ANY violation of lab safety rules either written or verbal can result in immediate removal from the lab. Removal from a lab activity may result in additional disciplinary action and a lab grade of a zero.

  • ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES. Throughout the school year requests may be made for additional materials/supplies. In addition to standard school supplies, items requested may include Ziploc bags, aluminum foil, index cards, lunch sacks, food labels, non-latex gloves (medical type), tissues, and colored copier paper.
