Weekly Newsletter for the week of

January 30th- February 3rd

Here’s what we did:

Morning Language Arts: After visiting the computer lab on Monday, we began a new book! The book Joyful Noise focuses on poetry and insects! While reading through the book with partners (the poems are written to be read by pairs) the students will complete four different projects to accompany the poems including continuing the poem (written in cursive), creating a comic about the poem, making a PowerPoint presentation and making a Microsoft Movie about the poem as well. We will work on these through the end of February.

Afternoon Language Arts: While several students are wrapping up the endangered animal research paper, we have moved forward to new book(s)! There are currently three books being read by different groups in the class- Tuck Everlasting, Mr. Popper’s Penguins and Mr. Toast and the Wooly Mammoth. Each group will read, answer questions, find vocabulary words and create an illustration for each chapter. The work not finished in class will be homework.

In Social Studies we read 4.2 and 4.3. Students have been working together to complete worksheets and vocabulary words. We will be having the chapter four test Thursday, February 9th.

Report cards came home on Tuesday. Please sign the envelope and return it to school as soon as possible. Almost all envelopes have been returned.

Friday we celebrated our 5000th point earned for this school year by having a pizza party. Yay! Let’s see if we can make it to 10,000 points before the school year is over! (Students also get rewards for every 1,000 points we earn as well).

Here’s what’s coming up:

Friday, February 17th is a professional day for the teachers. Students will not have school on that day. Also, the following Monday, February 20th is President’s Day. Enjoy the long weekend!

Important Information:

It is officially the second half of the school year! Students are now responsible for having their planners out to be checked by me. If their planner is not out, they do not receive points for our class total. If your notice that your child’s planner is not being signed by me, it is because they are not remembering in the morning to have it out.

It’s cold outside! Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear coats, hats and mittens! Students not dressed correctly will not be allowed to go outside for recess. There are LOTS of clothes on the lost and found table. Please make sure your clothes are not residing there!

Keep on checking those planners and the website! More assignments and links are being added to folders weekly. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me through email or phone. or 216-529-4232.

Fantastic Fourth Grade Writing:

Hi! Paper, Inc here! This week we are writing about Jump Rope for Heart! Jump Rope for Heart donates all the money that is raised to the American Heart Association. Every year fourth and fifth graders do Jump Rope for Heart. Let’s hope it raises a lot of money! Make sure to bring back permission slips by Monday.
