Weekly Communique Walking Assignment

It is Saturday morning around 9:30am, I wake up eat breakfast and decide that it is a good idea to take my dog Rosie for a long walk because it is a beautiful day. I decide that I want to take Rosie on our usual long walk which consists of walking to Fisherman’s Beach in Swampscott, Massachusetts and back. As I walk outside, I realize that while on my walk I won’t be walking alone because I have Rosie. The scary thought of not being able to use my phone comes into my mind as I start to walk. The good thing though is that I know where I am going and where my destination is because I take Rosie to Fisherman’s Beach a lot. And Rosie is very protective of me so if a bad guy comes I won’t feel as scared. By the time I reach the end of my street, the thought disappears. I start to look around at the nature surrounding me. I notice the smell of burning wood which reminds me of my Grandfather’s house because he always had a fire going. I feel the happiness warm my body when I sense the smell. I notice the sounds of the different animals around me and how my dog is reacting to them. Rosie loves to chase squirrels. Which means every time that we come close to a squirrel Rosie speeds up. I see the leaves on the trees and realize that it is surely Fall although the temperature feels like Summer.

By the time Rosie and I make our way down to the beach, I notice the smell changing into the air from burning wood, to normal scent, to ocean smell which consists of the smell of seaweed. I also smell and see the delicious food that is being made at the restaurant called The Cove. After Rosie and I walk past The Cove, Rosie starts to go fast. The thought of Rosie speeding up passes through my brain then leaves. Then I realize why my dog is speeding up. The reason why Rosie was going fast was because the store that is coming up which Rosie has been to several times is where I model called Kat’s Boutique. Rosie gets excited when she knows that she is about to see people that she knows. My dog is a people person which means she loves people more than other dogs.

Finally Rosie and I make it to Kat’s Boutique. We say a quick “hello” to my family friend who owns the shop and then continue our way to the beach. When we reach the beach our destination, I stop at one of the benches that looks out at the beach, pier and ocean. While looking around you can see Nahant and Boston. I love going to Fisherman’s Beach because of the view and I love being able to walk on the pier too. The smell starts to come which is the beach smell of seaweed again. I sit with Rosie and enjoy the quiet peaceful beach around me. I let everything out that is in my head and relax. After ten minutes, I take Rosie on the beach and the pier since it is October and you are allowed to take your dogs on the beach in October.

While walking on the beach, Rosie sniffs the ground and tries to ignore the ocean. Rosie is the type of dog that does not like the water. I try to convince Rosie to go out of her comfort zone by leading her more towards the ocean. Rosie surprisingly decides to take a chance and she runs right into the seawater. She stays in the ocean for about a minute then runs out. She continues to run and I chase her. Rosie’s breed tends to be smart so I trust my dog on making decisions. I finally catch up to Rosie. Rosie manages to be all the way at the end of the pier. We stay on the pier for about five minutes. I do the same thing as I did while sitting on the bench by looking around and capturing the view. It is all about the view for me.

As I make my way back home with my dog, I realize how beautiful my small town is and how thankful I am for what my town has. I am also thankful to not be going on these small adventure walks alone and to have a lovely dog to keep me company. The people in my town for the most part are really nice and friendly. As we traveled farther away from the beach, the beach scent that I had starts to fade away. My natural smell comes back and fills my body with joy. I finally make it back to my house but before I enter my house I ask Rosie “did you enjoy the long walk to the beach?”. Rosie looks at me with a happy, cute dog face, gives me her paws and lets me pet her which means she did enjoy her walk with me. When my dog is happy it makes me happy that is how I can understand and know that Rosie and I accomplished a long and beautiful walk for the day.
