Mrs. Chaney’s Math & Science Message

Week of Sept. 26th – next message on October 17th

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • At the end of this message, see the students of the week for each grade. Congratulations!
  • All 3rd, 4th and 5th graders – Choice Board Math Projects are due on Wednesday, September 28th! Can’t wait to see them!
  • If you have internet at home, I hope your child is checking out VMathlive.com!
  • 3rd and 4th Grade Animal Unit Study Guides go home today!! The test will be Wednesday, September 28th. Study nightly!
  • 5th graders did AWESOME on the Animal Unit Exam! Look for your child’s test in the Monday Folders!
  • 4th Graders are going to Trammel Creek on Friday to do experiments and tests on the stream. Please wear shorts or pants that can be rolled up. We will be getting in the stream up to our ankles. REMEMBER to bring old tennis shoes, crocs or rain boots.
  • The next Math and Science Message will be on October 17th. Monday Folders will also start back on Monday, October 17th.
  • Enjoy Fall Break!! Be ready to get back to business on Wednesday, October 12th!
  • 4th and 5th Graders – Study those multiplication facts! We have laminated cards to study, thanks to Mrs. Hayes and Ms. Butts!
  • Today is Mrs. Kercheville’s (our student teacher) last day in our classroom. We will miss her! She is going to primary to visit with Ms. Carney’s class. We wish her the best!

3rd Grade

MATH: We are working on the addition properties and missing addend this week. We will also share our math projects. After break, we will begin our time unit.

SCIENCE: Study guide went home today! Test will be on Wednesday. STUDY! After break, we will begin our EARTH SCIENCE UNIT.

4th GRADE

MATH:We will review multiples, factors, prime and composite numbers on Monday. There will be a quiz on Tuesday. Continue to work on multiplication facts at home. We will also share our math projects this week. After break, we will review the multiplication properties and multiply multi-digit numbers.

5th GRADE

Math: The 5th graders are crackin’ the whip! The adding and subtracting decimal quizzes were fabulous! This week we will continue working on multiplying multi-digit problems using the lattice and traditional methods! We will also work on multiplying decimals! Study those multiplication facts! After break, we will start long division with whole numbers and decimals.

SCIENCE: Way to go on the Animal Unit Exam! We will finish sharing our Glogsters! After break, we will discuss plants.
