Windorah State School students are winners when they are safe, respectful and responsible.

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great break. J Mr Reg and I were lucky enough to spend a few days on a beautiful, sunny island which was a fantastic way to recharge the batteries ready for another wonderful term of learning.

Due to slight changes in the cluster teacher position, Miss Jane will now only work between Windorah and Jundah. Therefore this means that each week Miss Jane will attend our school two days a week! One day each week will remain as the admin day for the principal, and the other will be a valuable co-teaching day. Both schools are very excited for this great opportunity.

In Term 1, a positive behaviour rewards program was introduced. This program was adapted from another school in the region, where it was titled the ‘Strive 4 Five’ program with the aim of students achieving around 5 tickets a week. Students are rewarded with tickets when they demonstrate the school rules based on the ‘respectful, responsible and safe’ categories, and receive a certificate and prize when they reach a certain level (eg. 50), with a culminating end of year reward activity. In an effort to tailor this program to suit the context of our school and community, I would like to invite students and members of the public to enter a competition to rename the program, with this name graphically designed to reflect the qualities of the local community. The design does not have to be computer generated but does need to be bright and motivating, with a catchy new positive name for the reward tickets. Other regions have titled a similar reward system simple as ‘Gotchas’ (for example). If you would like any more information, please do not hesitate to contact the school for more information. Competition closes 15th July. The winner will receive a signed frame with a copy of the winning entry.

Have a great first week back.

Regards,

Miss Emma

Winton’s Junior Bush Poetry Competition
The 19th Annual Festival will be held on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th of September. The school will be travelling to Winton again this year for this excellent event. More information will be provided closer to the date
Curriculum Chat
Poetry is the English focus for the next five weeks. Students will have an opportunity to work with a range of poetry and also have an opportunity to create their own masterpiece! There are a range of poems out there. Have fun whilst exploring some humorous poems with your child. This is a great way to encourage children to read. Enjoy! J
Principal Meeting
I will be away Monday and Tuesday of week 3 (28th and 28th July) for a Principal Meeting in Longreach.
Report Cards
Report cards were released this afternoon and sent home with students. Please contact the school as soon as possible if you do not receive them.
