Completing this survey will help us to gain a more detailed idea of what your requirements are. Fill out as much as you are able. You may find a few of the questions aren’t relevant to your requirements (IE some questions are about an existing website – if you have one, etc.).

General Information

1)What is the Name of your Company, Organisation (or your name if you are not a company)?

2)Who are the main decision makers? Will approval (for concept designs, etc.) need to be passed to a “board of directors” or “the team” for approval?
*This is just so that we can get an idea of a timescale for each phase of the development requiring approval, before the next phase can begin.

3)What is the name of your current (or intended) Domain Name(s) (web address)?
*Example:

4)Do you already own the above Domain Name? Do you require help in acquiring a Domain Name?

5)Briefly describe your Company/Organisation.

6)Are you a Charity, or Non-Profit Organisation?

7)Do you have an intended launch date? Is this flexible?

8)Do you have a budget for the website? This only needs to be a rough ballpark figure.
*Why are we asking? Let’s say for example you would like an e-commerce website but only have £700 to spend for the entire project. For that budget we would only be able to offer a very simple, PayPal-only solution with limited “features”. But if we know your budget is £2000+, we are able to offer you an ecommerce solution with a range of Payment options other than PayPal, or complex shipping / postage methods, inventory tracking, detailed sales reports, etc. Knowing the rough budget before quoting will help us to tailor a quote to fit your requirements and avoid offering you services that cost more than your available budget. We are able to offer a range of quotes (based on your “wish list” in the “website Functionality” section) if you are unsure of budgets.

9)Do you already have current branding (colours etc) and logo which needs to be maintained? Are you able to supply us with examples of the branding, either online or offline?

10)If you currently have a logo, do you have the source files (original high quality image files) ready for us to use?

11)If you do not currently have a logo, do you require one?
*this will incur a higher cost depending on the complexity of the logo – textual vs graphical etc. If you do not currently have an “official” logo, and do not wish us to provide you with one, standard text will be used as the website title etc.

12)Who do you feel are your competitors? If you can provide website addresses, this will help us in our research.

1)What areas of your existing website do you feel are successful?

2)What areas of your existing website do you feel need improvements? Do you have specific ideas on what those improvements should be?

3)If you have an existing Website / domain Name, do you already have a Hosting Account set up? If so, who is it with (and which “package” – if applicable).

Website Functionality

1)What do you imagine people will be using your site for? What do they want to do when there? (Online Booking, Articles/Research, Forum discussions, ecommerce, etc.)

2)Please outline any ideas for features you want on your site. Are there any features you want that are not on your current site? Feel free to show us other websites with features you like as examples. You can use this as a “wish list” if you like, but if any of the features are critical, please state which ones as some desired features may need to be lost due to budget limitations if necessary.
*Some possible ideas are: Homepage “slideshow” to showcase latest or featured items for sale, latest blog post, special offers etc. Contact forms which automatically link to an email marketing system such as Mail Chimp. The ability to accept online donations. A forum. Member’s only areas of the website. A Blog, and or news feed. Social Media Integration ranging from links/sharing buttons to a full import of your twitter feed etc.

3)If you require e-commerce, can you tell us roughly how many products this will be for? Do you have, or can you acquire all the product information and details?
*The number of products only needs to be a rough ballpark figure. The details of each product may include Product Images, Weights and Dimensions (for postage costs), Item Descriptions, etc. We do not need this information now, but knowing if it is readily available will help us work out a development timescale.

4)Do you have any current Social Media accounts which you will be wanting linked to from your website? Do you require help setting any up any social media accounts?
*IE Facebook Page, Twitter Account, etc. We can provide “buttons” on your website which link directly to them if desired/

5)When people land on your homepage, are there any specific elements you wish it to contain?
*IE calls to action for donating, or subscribing to a newsletter.

6)Would you like us to develop your website with advanced SEO (search engine optimisation) in mind?*This may affect the way we design your website, and the content, IE we may suggest re-wording of the core content (the copy) to ensure it contains “keywords” so your website can be found on Google searches more easily. We can also set up Google Analytics if you do not already have it so you can view and track visitors to your site (helpful to determine the most popular areas or articles of the site, etc.)

7)Would you like your website to be responsive? (optimised for tablet and other mobile devises) – Again, this would affect the way the website is developed, so knowing this before-hand is crucial.
*Responsive web design incurs a higher cost, so if you are unsure, we can quote with and without – just ask.

Design Concept

1)How do you want people to feel about your company when viewing your website?
*For example, do you want an elegant feel?Something fun? Clean and minimalistic? Vintage? Or perhaps you want to specifically invoke a calming atmosphere etc.?

2)Have you seen other sites you like the look of, or specifically don’t like?Why? Please provide links and details if possible.

3)Do you have any specific ideas or colours etc. in mind for your website?
*If any colours are a “no-no” please specify that here also.

Content and Website Management

1)Will content be carried over from an existing version of your website? Does the current content need updating or editing first?

2)If content is not to be transferred from an existing website, do you have all the content written and ready in a digital format? If not, please specify a rough time the website content would be available.
*We do not need the website content at this time, this is just so we can work out a timescale for the project.

3)Would you like to be able to edit the content of your website yourself? (Content Management System - CMS)
*This means you can do things like add new pages, add images to a gallery, add new products to a shop etc. without the need of us (or another developer) doing it for you (and charging).

4)If you want a CMS, and you have a large amount of copy to go on the website (a large number of pages), would you like the option to input some of that copy yourself (with guidance to show you how)? This will cut down on the amount of hours we need to spend on building your website and so would lower the cost.
*Example: Let’s say you require 4 “top level” pages – Home, About, Articles, Contact. We will create these pages for you and input them into the main menu system of the website. You then have the choice for us to input (format professionally, and with SEO) any “drop-down” pages you require (like articles), or we can show you how to create a new page, input the content, upload any images, and assign the page it to its place in the menu.

5)How much of the content will you be requiring to edit on a regular basis? (Adding new gallery images, shop items and categories, testimonials, pages, case studies, slideshow images, etc.)
