Woodworking students in this course will develop a project plan and material list for an assigned project. The student will have instruction in advanced woodworking practices as applied to wood and its properties. A safe use of production machines used in special operations will be in practice at all times.

Materials and Resources:

This course will follow woodworking techniques and safety practices in the textbook WOOD Technology & Processes . Materials will be supplied for required student projects. Students building projects above the requirement will need to supply their materials or reimburse THS for those materials.

Outcome Objective:

This course is designed to build not only projects but to instill foundations for good work ethic, quality workmanship and teamwork.

Expectations:

All students will follow the shop safety rules. It is expected that all students be in class on time. In the event of an absence, time (refer to the handbook policy on absences) will be given to make up missing work. All students are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with The Titan Way – Code of Honor.

Electronic Devices and Cellular Telephones:

Use is not permitted during the school day or on the school bus and should be powered off and out of sight. Failure to surrender electronic device when requested by a staff member will result in additional disciplinary consequences.

Full Participation:

Participation and effort are required for the entire semester. Any student that fails a term due to violation of FCPS attendance policies or failure to attempt and complete assignments may fail the entire semester and not receive credit.

Consequences:

Students are expected to conduct themselves appropriately at all times. Lateness and disruptive behavior will be dealt with in the following manner:

* Parent Contact

* After-school detention

* Office referral

FLEX

The purpose of FLEX is to work on school related activities for 40 minutes. All school rules and expectations apply during FLEX. Students are expected to be on time, to be respectful, to work will all teachers cooperatively, to attend tutoring when requested, and to use the provided time in a productive manner.

FLEX is NOT a FREE-BLOCK; no playing games, sleeping or distracting others. Students are strongly encouraged to make effective use of this valuable time. It is imperative that you seek help from the instructor as soon as you encounter difficulty in the course. Students are also invited to form study groups and peer pairs for studying purposes.

You may sign up for FLEX by putting your name on the sign-up sheet in the classroom. Remember that there are priority days for FLEX, so I may not be able to pull you the day you want. DO NOT WAIT – sign up as soon as possible.

Parents: Please print and sign a copy of this syllabus and return to Mr. Plank. If a copy is not received within five days, consent is assumed.
