1:Do I need any previous experience to become a umpire with BNSUD?

No previous experience is necessary to become a BNSUD umpire. We will be holding level 1 training seasons in the spring and will train you the proper way to umpire. A list of course can be found on the clinic page.

2: How do I register to become a new umpire?

Go to the BNSUD clinic page, find a clinic in your area and fill out the registration form and send it to the Umpire in Charge (UIC) in your area. If you are unable to attend a clinic in your area you may register in another area.

3: What is the age to umpire for BNSUD?

You must be a minimum of thirteen (13) years of age.

4: What age group would I be doing in the first year?

You will start by doing house league mosquito and Peewee. Once your evaluator feel you are comfortable they will assign you to the level you are best qualified.

5: How long do I have to stay in mosquito and peewee?

Once your evaluator feel you are comfortable they will assign you to the level you are best qualified to do.

6: Do I umpire games by myself?

You will be assigned a partner for most games. Sometimes only one umpire may be assigned to game.

7: How long are the games?

Mosquito games are six innings and Peewee are seven. Some games may have time limits, most games are about 11/2 hours.

8: How many games can I do a week?

This will depend on the number of games your assignor has available. Many weekends are busy with tournaments and exhibition games.

9: How much will I receive for a game?

It will depend on the level.

10: What do I have to provide to umpire?

All umpire are required to purchase all of you uniforms and equipment . You must have a uniform to umpire. If you are doing plates you must have plate gear. For a complete description of uniform go Uniforms.

11: What does it cost to become a umpire?

The registration fee to BNSUD is $50.00 for Level 1 plus a $10.00 clinic fee. Cost to outfit umpire may range between $125 to $185.The good news is you will be getting paid to do a job and it will not take long for you to reach a breakeven point.

12: What does my BNSUD registration pay for?

The BNSUD membership fee pays for you training material as well as helps to defray operation cost for your association. You will be insured by Baseball Nova Scotia and it also covers you registration fee to BNS. You will also receive a copy of The official rules of Baseball complete with Baseball Canada content rules and regulations.

13: When do I officially become a umpire?

After you complete your level 1 training session and field evaluation.
