Hello and Welcome to the Derby Road Group Practice newsletter.

In this newsletter we hope to keep patients informed of any chances that are currently happening in the practice. This may be good news, changes or health information.

Currently the Practice has 2 female doctors away from the practice on Maternity leave:

Dr Stephanie Hoberg –Dr Hoberg has had a beautiful baby boy and mother and son are both doing well. Dr Hoberg will be returning to the surgery at the middle of 2011.

Dr Huchan Le – had a beautiful baby girl in September. Dr Le will be returning to the surgery early 2011.

The Practice would also like to introduce you to some new faces that you will be seeing around the Practice.

Firstly we would like to welcome Dr Syed. Dr Syed will be joining us on 29th of November and will be working at both Derby Road and Copnor Road surgeries.

Recently the following doctors have joined the Practice for a period of time to help cover Maternity leave:

Dr Bahar Amin.

Dr Mark Casey.

Dr Jo Taylor.

Also we would like to welcome some new faces in reception. Please be patient as reception is a busy environment and we are trying to train the new members of staff while continuing to provide the best possible service to the patients.

The Practice now has a new up to date and informative website – Please check it out. Let us know if you can think of any areas of improvement.

Campaigns at Derby Road Group Practice.

Throughout the year Derby Road Group Practice run different clinics that are beneficial to the patients.

Influenza Vaccinations:

If you are aged 65 or over, or suffer from chronic disease (such as heart,lung,liver,kidney or neurological disease) have diabetes, a weak immune system or if you are pregnant, then we recommend you have this seasons influenza vaccine. Please speak to reception about available appointments.

Chlamydia Study:

This surgery is working along side Portsmouth sexual Health services to provide this service.

If you are aged between 15-25, males and females, then we would like for you to take part in the study. Chlamydia a very common sexual transmitted illness and if left untreated can lead to serious long term complication in male and female infertility. Chlamydia is easily treated with a short course of anti-biotics. Please see reception if you would like to take part in the study.

Keeping warm and healthy during winter:

Keeping warm over the winter months can help prevent illnesses. Here are some helpful tips to help achieve this:

Heating: try and heat your main living area to between 18oc -21oc and the rest of the house 16oc.Throughout the night try and keep the temperature at 18oc.

Eat well: regular meals throughout the winter will help with energy levels – try to have plenty of hot drinks and meals – try to vary your diet and aim to have 5 portions of fruit and vegetables.

Clothing: Keep warm by wearing lots of thin layers.

Wearing clothes made of wool, cotton or fleecy synthetic fibres may help.
