LAST MONTH

April was an Amazing Month!

We began the month with a class trip to the Arboretum. On this trip,

children were able o explore nature and its characteristics. They learned about their five senses and used them to experiment with nature (NJPS:5.4 Children observe and investigate the earth)

After the trip, children were able to recall their experience during the trip. Advanced learners were able to compare the Farm trip to the Arboretum trip using detailed illustrations.

During the remaider of the month, we continued with our Unit of Study on Clothing. We answered several questions such as;How are clothes made and how do we take care of our clothes?(NJPS: W.PK.2 Use a combination of drawings, dictation, scribble writing, letter-strings, or invented spelling to share information during play or other activities). We also learned about Types of clothing and community helpersthat wear special kinds of clothing called Uniforms.

After the break, we received a set of washer and dryer in our classroom. The children have used our new equipments to keep our clothings clean.Recently, we also gota sewing machine, which we have continued to explore as a sewing tool.

The Week of the Young Child this year was a huge succes! Children celebrated by participiating in the week long activities. We concluded the week with a ‘Fashionable Fun Friday’! On this day, children participatedin a fashion show where they were able describe various clothings exhibited by each participant of the show using their newly acquired clothing vocabularies.

Marvelous May

We look forward to a wonderful experience in our classroom this month. We will conclude our Unit of Study on Clothing and move to a new Unit. We will go on our final trip of this school year to the Turtle Back Zoo. We encourage our Kindergarten bound parents to volunteer for this trip as it is the final of your child’s preschool field trip experience.

Also, during this month, our Kindergarten bound students will be visiting a kindergarten classroom. Prior to the visit, children will learn what to expect on their visit. They will prepare to ask questions pertaining to kindergarten from the host kindergarten teacher and students.

As we prepare for the final days ahead, we will begin to review the concepts we learned throughout the school year. During our classroom interaction and learning, students will continue to build skills that will be needed in their next level of educational development.

Lastly, our moving on/moving up ceremony for this year will be held in our classroom on Wednesday, June 21 @ 10:30am. We encourage you to make plans accordingly in order to be present for your child’s special day!
