Assalamualaikum 20 January 2017

Dear Parent

We are very proud of the enthusiastic participation from learners last year and congratulate those who received a medal/certificate at the awards assembly. Thank you to all parents for their continuous and friendly support. There have been many inspiring fixtures played against schools and I can celebrate their great sportsmanship.

As coach at HMA, I’m looking forward to new challenges in 2017. I hope to encourage more learners to participate and most importantly to enjoy each sport. I cannot stress the value of sport for our learners and therefore encourage parents to allow their child to play in a team and enjoy all the benefits associated with the sport.

Sport is not a pleasant way of passing an afternoon. Sport is a passion! This commitment to their school, their team and their own development is a vital life skill and a vital part of their school life. Leadership, team building and camaraderie is developed. A good education is not just exemplified by success in academics. A truly holistic education must encompass culture and sport as well as allowing every learner to find their strengths and build on them. It allows players to acknowledgetheir weaknesses and strengthen them.

Sport at HMA is an important dimension of the broad scope of primary phase learning. It gives our learners an opportunity to:

  1. Exercise and develop their mental and physical potential.
  2. Participate with others within a structured programme to develop recognised and acceptable social skills.
  3. Have fun.
  4. Learn to cope and manage their responses within a competitive environment.
  5. Learn to give their best at all times and situations.
  6. Take advantage of and learn within a wide variety of sporting codes that are provided for the learners’ enjoyment and extension.

SPORTS OFFERED

Each new term brings about a variety of sporting codes. Before the season starts, we will host a session of trials to give every learner a fair opportunity to showcase their skills and talent for the sport and then every coach takes part in the process of team selection. We are constantly giving learners an opportunity to improve.

Our emphasis is certainly not only on the A & B teams but ALL teams in the school and we encourage you as the parent to share that philosophy with us. Learners obviously want to win every match they play, but that is not always possible so we spend time teaching your child to win graciously and loose graciously too. Every lesson in life is learnt through disappointment as well as achievement.

HMA’s after school sports and extra mural program has been refreshed to holistically motivate and develop your child’s sporting skills. This program will, in turn be used as a framework for the selection process for your child to represent HMA.

The criteria for selection are as follows:

  1. Punctuality for training sessions & commitment to fixtures/ tournaments.
  2. Fitness, Ability and performance
  3. Knowledge about the game and skills
  4. Attitude and conduct of players on and off the field.
