Agenda WBL Spring Sessions- March 2018

SDECT0186 Work Based Learning Spring Updates (Clock Hours – 3)

WBL Session: 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Coordinator Exchange:facilitator Mike Rutledge, SDE

Program promotion, development and validation is at the forefront of WBL. Coordinators will be given the opportunity to exchange/swap/borrow from and discuss with their peers successful promotion techniques for WBL. Current WBL brochures, pamphlets, and/or news articles will be exchanged during the session. The use of the “shared information” during Comprehensive Monitoring, Continued Compliance and local Program Promotion/Publicity will prevent the “reinvention of the wheel” and underscore time management.

A different looking brochure or pamphlet prevents the same old look year after year, Eye-catching is the theme. Coordinators should bring paper copies, portable storage devices, or web links for the information they wish to share with other coordinators. In particular, New Coordinators need see your materials, hear your suggestions and follow you leadership.

WBL Session: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

The R-1, “One more Time”:facilitator Mike Rutledge, SDE, and guest speaker.

The R-1 report is due no later than November 1 for the fall semester and no later than March 1 for the spring semester each year. This is noted in the Work-Based Learning Manual(page 13).

Coordinator Responsibilities:(Part of the BIC review and Continued Compliance)

  • Complete and submit reports as required by the Department and LEA, (including the R-1 report that is due November 1 and March 1).

The most frequent response I receive from IT, relating to problems with the R-1 is “USER ERROR”. In order to address the possibility of user errors, we will look at completing an entire R-1 report during this session. We will address steps we follow in order to complete the form as well as precautions to be aware of such as saving, printing and making sure our screen is set to view the entire report. The session is a review for experienced coordinators and training for new coordinators.

This Training/review does not affect the due dates for the spring R-1. The due date is actually prior to the training session.

WBL Session: 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

End of the Year “Request” for “Wage & Hour Report”.Facilitator Mike Rutledge, SDE

The “Weekly Wage and Hour Report” is currently a required document which is included in each student folder.

“The Wage and Hour Report is not currently required to be submitted as a State Report”, but it is extremely beneficial to the local system and Work-Based Learning state wide.

A request has been made to include the W&H as part of the R-1 report at some point in the future.

The annual request to report the local WBL class W&H is intended to promote the local and state accomplishments of Work-Based Learning. The process required to total the earnings and hours for your class is the subject of this session. The Coordinators will be able to total hours worked/completed during the year by Apprenticeships as well as Internships along with wages earned.

The totaling for all students enrolled in the local WBL class requires the summing of the final entries for each student enrolled. The total for individual students is recorded on their Weekly Wage and hour Report and is part of the REQUIREDstudent documents. The monitoring of the documents is part of the end of the year Continued Compliance verification by local directors.

Methods of determining the totals for induvial classes can be as simple as:

  • Paper and pencil completion of the WBL manual form
  • Excel spread sheet
  • Microsoft templates downloaded,
  • Shared developed template
  • A Personally developed system you have completed for local use.
