Monday 3/18/13

OBJ to be taught:

3C--> Draw conclusions about the causes/effects that drew the USA into war. DOK 3

3E--> Explain/analyze the USA role in international organizations during the 20th century. DOK 3

7A---> Examine cultural artifacts to contextualize historical developments.

EAGLE CHALLENGE: SATP questions on World War II (causes of the war)

Mini-Lesson: TTW use pictures to support the key information on the following topics: (1) the rise of Joseph Stalin in USSR, (2) the rise of Benito Mussolini in Italy, (3) rise of Hitler in Germany, (4) the characteristics of a tolitarian state, (5) weakness of the League of Nations, (6) Roosevelt embraces isolation (sec. 2), (7) war in Europe, (8) America debates war (see chart page 449) and (9) America moves away from neutrality.

Guided Practice: TTW use the independent practice activity of "opposite of dictators" handout to lead a class discussion on the content.

Independent Practice: TSW will complete an activity that requires them to read and analyze pages 436-442. TSW complete an individual chart that will be used as their notes for the day. TTW go over the correct answers as part of the mini-lesson.

Closure: The students will analyze FDR's Four Freedom Speech (handout) and answer sever questions. SATP question to follow using Four Freedom Speech content. (possible Socrative)

Tuesday OBJ to be taught:

1C--> Analyze the expansion of federal powers in the USA government. DOK 3

3C--> Draw conclusions about the American entry in the war. DOK 3

EAGLE CHALLENGE: "Preparing for the SATP" TSW answer questions #1 -3 on page 463. TTW guide an analysis of the documents and short discussion.

Mini-Lesson: TTW will model information on: (1) the surprise attack of Pearl Harbor (2) American mobilization for war and (3) fighting in the Pacific. TTW show America the Story of US and use the listening quiz to gauge notes and discussion on WWII.

Guided Practice: TTW use the "Surprise Attack" info-graph on page 454-455 to support the teaching of Pearl Harbor.

Independent Practice: The students will read Japan attacked the USA. TSW complete a note-taking activity in their notebook using the cause/effect strategy on page 452.

Closure: SATP practice questions on content covered. These questions will be taken and graded---used for analysis of content.

WednesdayOBJ to be taught:

1B--> analyze presidential and congressional policies on domestic reform. DOK 3

1D-->Analyze the tension on liberty and individual freedoms. DOK 3

2A--> Explain the expanding role/impact of more women and minorities into the workforce. DOK 2

3C--> Draw conclusions about American entry into the war (causes/effects). 3C

5C---> Identify migration patterns resulting from economic push-pull factors. DOK 2

EAGLE CHALLENGE:

Focus on Geography page 468 questions #1 & Info-graph of War in Europe questions # 1-2

Mini-Lesson: TTW will guide mini-lesson on: (1) Dwight Eisenhower & WWII, (2) Pressure on Germany (unconditional surrender, strategic bombing, saturation bombing, Tuskegee Airmen)(3) Battle of Midway. TTW use a Powerpoint and complete the film America The Story of US. TSW complete a listening quiz from the video.

Guided Practice: TSW read Korematsu vs. the United States on Japanese Internemt. TSW answer questions that follow the short reading.

Closure: SATP2 questiosn on discussed content.

Mini-Lesson: TTW will guide a mini-lesson on: victory in Europe, (2) DDay, (3) Allies in Pacific, (4) new technology during the war, (5) atomic bomb

Guided Practice: TSW read and complete questions on the Effects of the bomb page 490 and the Holocaust page 494

Closure: SATP2 questions from TEST 1-3 on World War II

3D-->Analyze the developments of tension between USA and USSR that led to the Cold War between USA & USSR. DOK 3

3E--> Explain the USA role in international organizations. DOK 3

7A---> Use cultural artifacts to contextualize historical developments from a time period. DOK 2

Mini-Lesson: TTW introduce concepts that led to the Cold War between the USA and USSR. TSW use Chp. 16 Section 1 notes to identify American Goals vs. USA Goals. TTW use the note handout to guide notes on Section 1 with a focus on: (1) differing governments of USA/USSR, (2) differences between Stalin and Truman, (3) Iron Curtain, (4) Truman Doctrine, (5) Containment and (6) The Marshall Plan.

Guided Practice: Geography analysis page 513--> TSW will complete questions 1-2.

TTW Guide a brief review of WWII principles and administer a chapter test on Chp. 14-15 on World War II. (2nd half of the class)

TEST on World War II

Assignment: Students will be asked to read pages 510-517 and complete the note guide.
