Water Slide Wonder

Attention eighth grade students! You have an opportunity to design your very own water slide that could be built in a new water park, opening in Atlanta this summer! You must follow the below instructions carefully to submit your water slide suggestion. Have fun!

Make a brochure to advertise your slide and persuade the builders to use your design.

-Fold a piece of graph paper into thirds. This will create 5 panels (Front, 3 inside, Back)

Front:

The goal for the front panel is to make the builders want to open your brochure to learn more about your slide. Therefore, make it exciting and be creative! Name your slide. Be sure to give yourself credit for your design by putting your name on the front panel as well.

Panels 1 & 2 (EXAMPLE shown – do not copy this one!)

-Using BOTH panels 1 & 2, draw (CAREFULLY!!) your slide.
-Your slide MUST have at LEAST 3 different slopes included in it.
-The x axis is ground level.
- The y intercept is where your slide starts.
-Label important coordinates on your slide so that you can later calculate the slope (see example)
- Label the unit of measurement on the y axis (i.e. inches, feet, meters, etc.)

Panel 3:

Use Panel 3 to give the highlights of your slide. Talk it up! Use your math skills to explain to the builders how exciting your slide is going to be. Make sure to tell them how high your slide is off of the ground.

Back:

Use the back of the brochure to show all of your slope calculations. You must SHOW ALL WORK to get credit. Follow the example below for all of your different slopes included in your water slide.

Example for line segment AB:

= = = 0

* To get full credit, all portions of the brochure must be accurate and neat.
* Show a rough draft to the building foreman (your teacher) before beginning your final brochure.
