WATER BALLOON BASEBALL

Objective: To hit each of 4 bases, one at a time, using nothing more than a slingshot and 7 water balloons.

Team: Team made up of 4 members: 2 holders, a spotter, and a launcher. Team members may change roles during game. If a person plays for more than 1 team, grade given will be highest team score earned.

Holders: Hold and brace ends of sling shot

Launcher: Aim and set balloon in motion

Spotter: Stand at target base and communicate data back to launcher

Responsibility of other players during the game:

  1. Serve as base coaches to insure adherence to the rules. Failure to follow the rules will result in a discontinuance of hands- on activities other than traditional chemistry labs.
  2. Stay off the playing field, unless acting as base coach. All observations need to be made from behind backdrop.

Rules:

1)Game will consist of 1 innings in which all teams will have 7 “balls” ( water balloons) to score.

2)To score a point launcher must have foot on base and water balloon must land no more than 1 foot from base in any direction. If launchers feet leave the base at any time before the release of the balloon, any points score will NOT be awarded.

3)To play, team will start at home plate, and aim toward 1st base. If team succeeds in hitting 1st base (within 1 foot of base), team advances to 1st base. Team will be awarded one point.

4)When at 1st base, team will aim toward 2nd base. If team succeeds in hitting 2nd base (within 1 foot of base), team advances to 2nd base. Team will be awarded one point.

5)When at 2ndbase, team will aim toward 3rd base. If team succeeds in hitting 3rd base (within 1 foot of base), team advances to 3rd base. Team will be awarded one point.

6)When at 3rdbase, team will aim towardHOME PLATE. If team succeeds in hitting HOME PLATE (within 1 foot of base), it is a HOMERUN. Team will be awarded one point.

7)If team used up all 7 water balloons, it the next teams turn

8)When all teams have gone, inning is over.

Disqualification

1)7.5/15 points will be given if a team commits the following faults:

  1. Launcher repeatedly fails to stand on base during launch (3 warning will be given)
  2. Team fails to remain behind backdrop when not at bat.
  3. Base coaches make bad calls (2 warnings will be given)
