Puffin Class

Watch out … Those Rotten Romans are coming!

In the lead up to Christmas, we will be writing quest stories set in the Roman times, keeping diary entries as if we were a Roman solider as well as creating some performance poetry and writing persuasive letters too! Busy hey? As always, we will be focusing on using rich vocabulary suitable to the text type and taking special care to join our handwriting. I wonder if anyone will earn their pen license next half-term?
During our history lessons, we will be ordering events from the Roman invasion of Britain. We will be using various sources to discover fascinating facts about the past. Who was Claudius? Why did he invade Britain? Stay tuned to find out! We will be exploring the causes for Boudicca’s uprising against the Romans and considering why it failed! http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primaryhistory/romans/invasion/

During Science lessons we will be focusing on sound! How do we hear all of the wonderful sounds around us? We will be investigating vibrations and finding patterns in pitch and volume. http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/science/physical_processes/sound/play/

In addition to this, our music lessons will be based on learning all of the key stage two Christmas carols ready to wow our audience at the carol concert this year!

In Maths we will be learning roman numerals, as well as focusing on fractions and shape too. Don’t forget to keep playing times table rocks stars at home!

As always, RE will be covered weekly with a three week focus on Islam – in particular, Muslim’s place of worship. Learning about other faiths is important as it promotes tolerance and understanding in today’s diverse, ever changing world! As Christmas approaches we will be following the new Understanding Christianity syllabus, learning about incarnation. Have you heard of The Trinity?

It’s going to be a jam-packed half-term in Year 4, I hope you’re ready!
