Applications are invited for a Direct Trainer (Watch Manager B). The successful applicant will be based at Incident Command Suite, Northallerton, howeveryour contract of employment will require you to work in any post appropriate to your role at such other place of employment in the authority's services as may be required.

The postis conditioned to the day duties duty system, in accordance with the Scheme of Conditions of Service.The starting salary will be £33,905per annum which is Watch Manager (development) rate of pay. If the appointed employee is already, or has been, deemed a competent Watch Manager then the starting salary will be £37,112.00 per annum.

In addition, the following allowance is also payable: -

7% unsociable hours allowance (pensionable). This allowance is only payable when the terms and conditions set out below are fulfilled. It will continue to be paid for up to 3 months in the event of re-deployment, detached duties, restricted duties (where these prevent the fulfilment of evening and weekend working as set out below) and long term sickness absence, after which time this payment ceases.It will cease immediately when any permanent role change occurs.

You will be required to:

  • Work 5 days per week, averaging 42 hours per week.
  • Provide operational cover as required from Training Centre. For operational experience and development the Training Centre Watch Manager will work as Incident Commander when crewing a Fire Appliance.
  • Establish a working relationship and act as a point of contact for designated work units, to assist the local managers with regards to skills, development, maintenance, audit and assurance.
  • As directed by the Training Centre Manager / Group Manager Staff Risk / GM (Ops Assurance Manager), carry out specific tasks anywhere in the Service area relative to their outreach skills development, maintenance, audit and assurance remit (noted above). If such work cannot be easily facilitated by the nominated training instructor, then the arrangement will be subject to a 4 weeks notice period.
  • Be suitably qualified to provide learning and development support for the designated work units.
  • Provide up to 15 weekend days training a year, such requirements to be authorised and arranged via the Training Centre Manager, with at least 4 weeks notice given. When a weekend day is worked a compensatory weekday maybe taken as rota, during the week before or the week after the weekend worked.
  • Provide 2 week day evening training sessions per month in line with the above commitments. Those days to be arranged on a late start basis when possible and conclude by 9pm. Normal travel time/mileage to home not included – personal responsibility, however additional travel time over the normal home to work travel will be classed as on duty time and should be calculated into the late start. Any request by external managers/work units for assistance outside normal working hours, which cannot be easily facilitated, will be subject to 4 weeks notice.
  • Any specific requests for assistance that cannot be facilitated through the arrangements noted may be redirected by Training Centre line managers if an alternative means of providing that support can be arranged (i.e. District Trainers / alternative T/C Instructor).

Leave Entitlement is 30 days (plus 3 long service days when at the start of the leave year (1st January) there has been at least 5 complete years’ continuous service) of which 3 leave days will be taken between Christmas and New Year, along with the public holidays, to provide for Christmas closedown. All public holidays will be taken on the days announced by Government.

  • Not be subject to any informal or formal development plans within current role at point of application
  • Acceptable references received from current Fire and Rescue Service
  • Be medically fit to undertake the role of Watch Manager
  • Full UK driving licence

  • Willing to undertake an enhanced (DBS) check
