- Context
1.1 The Academy opened in September 2006 following the closure of ThamesbridgeCollege, which was identified as a “failing school”.
1.2 Prior attainment data shows us that the achievement of all cohorts is significantly low compared to all other schools.
1.3 The present year 11 had the lowest average key stage 2 results of any school in the country.
1.4 Although the academy was fully staffed, many teachers were in training or unqualified. This led to significant training needs.
1.5 Half way through the academic year the academy moved buildings which placed a significant demand on staff time for additional training.
1.6 Throughout the year a detailed and well structured monitoring and intervention strategy has been implemented.
1.7 The following data is a credit to the students and staff in this first year.
2.English, Mathematics and Science SAT Results
2.1 SAT Results Table
FFT Target(top 25% of Schools) / Teacher Assessment / Actual
Performance
English Level 5+ / 46% / 15% / 44%
English Level 6+ / 10% / 3% / 3%
Mathematics Level 5+ / 44% / 38% / 56%
Mathematics Level 6+ / 22% / 15% / 24%
Science Level 5+ / 39% / 44 % / 39%
Science Level 6+ / 11% / 5 % / 9%
2. 2 The Fischer Family Trust (FFT) targets are based on those which would consistent with the progress made by pupils in schools with the highest value added in 2004-2005. These are the most challenging targets available and are used by the DfES to judge our performance as an Academy.
2.3 In English, the levels achieved at 5+ narrowly missed the top FFT target by 2%. At 6+ the levels achieved was below the FFT target.
2.4 In Mathematics, at both level 5+ and level 6+ the FFT target has been exceeded. In terms of students achieving level 5+ the target was exceeded by a significant 12%! This is a real achievement and is testament to the hard work and dedication of both the students and teaching staff involved.
2.5 In Science, the target at level 5+ was achieved whilst the target at level 6+ was narrowly missed (just over one student!). Once again, these are an excellent set of results for both the students and teachers of the JohnMadejskiAcademy.

3.Year 11 Results 2007
3.1 The year 11 consists of 58 students on roll. However only 46 students were taught within the Academy, the other twelve students were placed on external provision by the predecessor school.
3.2 The following statistics are based upon the 58 students on roll. With such small numbers of students, every single student counts as 2% on our figures.
31% of students gained five or more *A-C GCSE grades.
3.3The Fischer Family Trust target to place the Academy in the top 25% of schools nationally was 15%. The academy achieved over double this target!
3.4The internal academy target was 40%. Two students narrowly missed their Science GNVQ and one student gained two D grades in Business and Communication and Food respectively. With such small numbers a handful of students can have a significant impact.
3.57% of students gained five or more A*-C GCSE grades including English and Mathematics
3.6The Fischer Family Trust target to place the Academy in the top 25% of schools nationally was 9%. We missed this target by 1 student! In fact, three students gained C grades in either Mathematics or English but not both. The percentage of students gaining 5 or more good grades including English and Mathematics is the same as students in “similar schools” nationally
3.7In terms of students who were taught by the academy;
42% of students gained five or more A*-C GCSE grades.
8% of students gained five or more A*-C GCSE grades including English and Mathematics
3.8Outstanding Individual Achievements
Michael Kehinde; 12 higher grade passes (A* in Maths and Geography, A in English and Business and Communication, B in English Literature and Resistant materials and passes in BTECPE and GNVQ Science)
Tristan Silva: 8 higher grade passes 9 (B grades in English Literature and Art, C grades in English and Business and Communication, pass in GNVQ Science)

4. Year 12 Results
4.1 I am pleased to report that on average the Sixth Form students achieved the Academy targets set.

4.4Our highest achieving students were Winnie Oudemans (ABD in Media Studies, Business Studies and ICT respectively) and Paul Lock (CCC in Media Studies, Business Studies and ICT)

5. Summary
5.1The results reported place the Academy in at least the top 25%of schools nationally and subsequently makes the Academy one of the most improved schools in the country.
5.2Particularly pleasing are the Key Stage 3 results, where we see the most improvement on previous results.
5.3This is just the beginning!!!
