Waste Reduction Week in Canada 2016

Waste Reduction Week in Canada, a coalition of environmental non-profit and government organizations from the 13 participating provinces/territories, are asking municipalities, businesses, and schools across Canada to demonstrate their commitment and accomplishments in waste reduction by proclaiming Oct. 17–23, 2016 as Waste Reduction Week in Canada.

Schools have long been sustainability champions that instill life-long environmental awareness and responsibility in students. Schools themselves act as important examples within their community by operating and managing their affairs while contributing positively to the environment. We hope your school will take this opportunity to support a national campaign that builds awareness around issues of sustainable and responsible consumption; encourages choice for more responsible products/services; and promotes actions that reduce disposal and conserve natural resources.

Plastic Bag Grab challenge returns

The Plastic Bag Grab challenge is back again for 2017! Last year, more than 400 schools across Canada participated in the challenge and collected more than 2 million plastic bags, which recycled into small pellets and used to make a variety of new products.

Elementary schools from across Canada are challenged to collect as many plastic bags as they can for recycling during Earth Week (April 16 – 22, 2017). Top schools in each province and territory that collect the most plastic bags for recycling are eligible to win cash prizes that can be used for schools’ environmental initiatives!

For more information, including rules, contest prizes, and registration, visit plasticbaggrab.com.
